Exempt Position Purpose The Artist in Residence - Dance is responsible for delivering high-quality dance instruction that supports student learning, artistic development, and performance excellence within the school's arts program.
What You'll Be Doing:
(Responsibilities) Provide engaging and effective dance instruction through lecture, demonstration, and the use of audiovisual and supplemental instructional materials. Stage, direct, and effectively communicate performance expectations in alignment with the Arts Department's goals. Facilitate and manage student auditions scheduled throughout the academic year. Develop course objectives and outlines of study in accordance with district, state, and school curriculum guidelines. Assess student progress and proficiency through performance evaluations and written assessments; maintain accurate records and communicate progress to students and families. Sponsor and support one or more extracurricular student activities or organizations, as assigned. Establish and maintain proper classroom management and student discipline. Foster a rigorous, inclusive, and supportive learning environment characterized by high expectations and artistic excellence. Maintain existing curriculum and instructional practices; evaluate, refine, and implement improvements as appropriate. Build and sustain strong professional relationships with local businesses, arts organizations, agencies, and higher education institutions. Coordinate guest lectures, demonstrations, artist-in-residence programs, and master classes. Attend district-level and site-based meetings as required. This Job, You'll Need To:
(Qualifications) Bachelor's degree Holds or is eligible to obtain a Missouri Substitute Teacher Certificate Demonstrated ability and commitment to continuously develop, evaluate, and refine curriculum in collaboration with colleagues Ability to work effectively with a diverse student population Proven ability to build strong partnerships with the business and arts community Strong verbal and written communication skills Availability to work after school hours and on some weekends for rehearsals and performances. This Role, You'll Need:
(Preferred Qualifications) Holds or is eligible to obtain a Missouri Certificate in Art Education (K-12) Prior teaching experience Professional performance and/or industry experience in dance Physical Demands The physical demands described are representative of those required to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these functions. The employee must be able to sit, stand, walk, speak, hear, and use hands and fingers to reach, handle, and manipulate objects. Duties require bending, stooping, and lifting objects weighing at least ten (10) pounds. The position occasionally requires stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Visual capabilities must include close vision, distance vision, color and depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
