Theater Tech Teacher and Technical Director for
Play & Musical STIPEND:
$13,500 (to be paid in four installments: Oct 15, Dec 15, March 15, May 15)
REPORTS TO
High School Principal and Director of Arts The Theatre Instructor & Technical Director at Notre Dame de Sion High School leads students in both the artistic and technical aspects of theatre. This role strengthens alignment between classroom instruction and school productions, developing student skills in performance, stagecraft, and collaboration. This position supports Sion's mission by fostering creativity, confidence, and leadership through storytelling, artistic expression, and shared production experiences.

This specific role involves teaching one 7th period Theater Tech class each semester and serving as the technical director for the musical (fall) and play (spring).
QUALIFYING CHARACTERISTICS
Knowledge of and commitment to the Sion mission Background in theatre, drama, technical theatre, or related field Experience in production (set design, lighting, sound, stage management, etc.) Experience with using various powertools, and training students to use them safely Ability to teach and mentor high school students Strong organizational and collaboration skills Comfort working in both classroom and production environments
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Plans and teaches one Technical Theatre course that develops technical stagecraft knowledge. Teaches technical theater skills such as set construction, lighting/sound operation, props, costume basics, stage make-up and backstage organization. Supports school productions ( play, musical, or showcases) through rehearsals, tech support, or design collaboration—with schedules planned in advance. Guides students in backstage roles, tech crews, stage management, and leadership positions in production teams. Integrates Sion Success Outcomes (creativity, communication, collaboration, resilience) into instruction and rehearsal environments. Ensures safe setup, maintenance, and use of theater equipment and performance spaces. Keeps accurate class records, attendance, and student progress documentation. Communicates clearly with students, families, and faculty regarding rehearsals, schedules, and expectations. Participates in faculty meetings, professional development, and required school events as appropriate for part-time staff. Contributes positively to the Fine Arts Department and overall school community. Performs additional responsibilities as assigned by the High School Principal and Director of Arts
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT
Works in classrooms, theatre spaces, backstage areas, and scene shops. Must be able to lift up to 40 lbs, climb ladders, carry props/materials, and stand for extended periods. Safely use and maintain powertools, lighting equipment and other scenic elements Evening or weekend commitments will be required for rehearsals or performances (scheduled in advance).
