Qualifications/Requirements:
Must hold or be eligible to hold a North Carolina teaching license in appropriate licensure area.
Goal:
To develop in each pupil an appreciation of theatre art as part of general culture; to support and enable pupils to participate in theatrical productions; to discover and develop talents of pupils in the theatrical field; and to develop an appreciation for the values of discipline and team work.
Duties:
Teach and encourage secondary pupils in the area of theatrics. Use the course of study adopted by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction and other appropriate learning activities Instruct pupils in citizenship and basic subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district Provide individual and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil Use repertoire of all types including traditional and contemporary, that are appropriate for all ages and skill levels of pupils Control the storage and use of school-owned property; make minor adjustments and request repairs to equipment as required Establish and maintain standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and performances Evaluate each pupil's growth and performance, assessing each individual's contribution to the performance of the group Plan, rehearse, and direct pupils in programs for school and community Select and requisition supplies and equipment; maintain required inventory records Communicate with parents and school counselors on pupil progress Identify pupil needs and cooperate with other professional staff members in assessing and helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems Cooperate with school administration in selecting theatrical productions for school and civic functions Supervise pupils in out-of-classroom activities as assigned Participate in curriculum and other developmental programs Participate in faculty committees and sponsorship of pupil activities Maintain professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and in self-selected professional growth activities related to theatre Must be able to perform heavy work exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of forces frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to lift objects. Other duties as assigned.
