PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Master class teachers will provide instruction to students of a particular instrument (i.e. flute, trumpet, oboe, violin, etc.) Students will be taught in small group settings ranging from 2 to 25 students. Master classes will focus on the finer details of playing an instrument (i.e.tone production, breathing, vibrato, technique, range, flexibility, musicality, playing positions, etc.) Master classes will be one hour in length and will be held on an Irving ISD campus.
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Education/Certification:
High school degree or GED.
Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Knowledge and strong playing ability of said instrument.
  • Ability to work with small groups of students in a positive and productive manner.
  • Strong organizational, communication,and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to access student instrumental needs and prescribe possible solutions for enrichment and remediation.
Minimum Experience:
Knowledge of the instrument
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
1. Present master classes to small groups of students in a positive and productive manner as requested by the campus band director. 2. Maintain a cooperative working relationship with band directors, band members and all band staff. 3. Ability to access student instrumental needs and prescribe possible solutions for enrichment and remediation. 4. Solutions for enrichment/remediation will be communicated to students and directors. 5. Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement through formal and informal testing.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Must maintain emotional control and exercise reasoning and problem solving skills while under stress. Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Should be able to interpret procedures and analyze data for decision-making. Frequent in-district and occasional in-state or national travel. Occasional prolonged and irregular hours.

Contribute to the prevention of accidents and injuries by observing safety rules and District policy, practicing the principles and skills taught in safety training, wearing personal protective equipment as required, reporting injuries and incidences immediately to supervisor, and being proactive in the ongoing efforts to improve and maintain workplace safety.
