School Principal Qualifications:
  • Valid WV Teaching Certificate in Music 6-12
  • Exhibits knowledge in the area of choral music, as well as the duties and responsibilities of a choral director and the ability to perform the duties in a professional manner.
  • Strong background in Instrumental Music with the ability to play most instruments
  • Strong background in Instrumental Performance
  • Good communication and superior organizational skills
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel with the choir and theatre practices and performances as needed
  • Proven experience directing theatrical productions at the high school or community level.
  • Strong knowledge of acting techniques, stagecraft, and theatre history.
Job Summary:
  • The Choral and Theatre Teacher provides instruction in vocal music and theatre arts, leads choral ensembles and theatrical productions, and directs the school's show choir, The Entertainers.
This position ensures high standards of vocal and visual performance, discipline, and student development in each course and activity. The instructor is responsible for providing quality lesson plans, delivering quality instruction, organizing rehearsals, performances, competitions, and coordinating all related logistics, while fostering student performance skills, creativity, and collaboration while supporting school performances and extra activities aligned with district and state expectations.
Key Responsibilities in choir:
  • Create quality lesson plans and utilize diversified instruction to meet the needs of students within the music education coursework.
  • Adhere and uphold county and school policies.
  • Provide quality classroom management strategies.
  • Utilize hands-on activities to provide a broader depth in musical education within the classroom.
  • Collaborate with the Fine Arts department to provide unique opportunities for learners.
  • Direct high school choir, soloists, and ensembles.
  • Plan, organize, and direct all aspects of the choral department, including rehearsals, performances, and competitions.
  • Establish performance requirements and enforce academic requirements.
  • Select appropriate music and design a competitive show choir performance in collaboration with administration, staff, and approved volunteers.
  • Manage recruitment and retention of choral students.
  • Oversee all logistics for performances including travel arrangements, uniforms, equipment, and field setup.
  • Maintain communication with students, parents, administrators, and booster organizations.
  • Ensure all program activities comply with school policies and relevant music associations.
  • Maintain inventory, care, and organization of costumes and choir/ theatre equipment.
  • Create a positive and disciplined environment for all students.
  • Provide choir participation at extracurricular events.
  • Oversee all logistics for performances including transportation, lodging, meals, and costumes, and meals for events.
  • Comply with federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, Taylor County Board of Education policy, and GHS rules.
  • Organize and support booster club activities.
Key Responsibilities for theatre:
  • Teach a range of theatre courses, from introductory acting to advanced performance and stagecraft.
  • Direct and produce a major school production each year, collaborating with students, staff, and parent volunteers.
  • Mentor students in all aspects of theatre, including script analysis, character development, set design, lighting, and sound.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive classroom environment where every student feels empowered to take creative risks.
  • Manage production budgets, schedules, and technical resources.
  • Partner with other faculty to integrate theatre into cross-curricular projects and events.
Work Environment:
  • Indoor and outdoor work environments (rehearsals, performances, competitions).
  • Requires physical activity including standing for long periods and assisting with equipment setup.
  • Fast-paced, often loud environment during practices and events. Communication

  • Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
