This role delivers hands-on, practical instruction focused on safe driving practices, defensive driving techniques, vehicle operation, and student transportation procedures to ensure drivers meet federal, state, and district safety and certification standards. Responsibilities include evaluating trainee performance during road training, providing clear feedback and corrective instruction, and helping new drivers develop the skills and confidence needed to safely transport students. The position plays a critical role in strengthening school bus safety through targeted, high-quality practical training delivered on a contractual basis. Duties Deliver hands-on behind-the-wheel training to school bus driver applicants, focusing on safe vehicle operation, defensive driving techniques, and proper student transportation procedures. Evaluate trainee performance during road instruction, provide immediate feedback, and recommend corrective actions to ensure drivers meet required safety and certification standards. Instruct trainees on state and federal regulations, emergency procedures, and best practices for safely transporting school students. Conduct skills assessments and road tests to determine driver readiness and compliance with district and regulatory requirements. Maintain accurate training records, including session details, trainee progress, and performance evaluations for district review and audit purposes. Collaborate with school district transportation staff to schedule training sessions and support overall driver development needs on a contractual basis. Collaborate with Cactus Point Training team regarding scheduling and logistics. Experience Proven experience as a certified School Bus Driver with a strong safety record and extensive knowledge of student transportation operations. Arizona School Bus Driver Instructor certification preferred. Arizona School Bus Driver certification required• Minimum of 2-3 years of hands-on behind-the-wheel training experience instructing new and existing school bus drivers. Demonstrated ability to evaluate driver performance, provide constructive feedback, and successfully develop driver skills in real-world road conditions. Experience conducting driver skills assessments, road testing, and defensive driving instruction in compliance with state and federal regulations. Familiarity with school district transportation policies, student management procedures on buses, and emergency response protocols. Previous experience maintaining detailed training records, completing driver evaluations, and meeting audit/compliance documentation standards.
