- Part-time Jungle Driving School of Des Moines is hiring Behind the Wheel Instructors for flexible part time afternoon, evening, and weekend driving lessons.
The ideal candidate is already certified in Iowa and interested in earning supplemental income with a growing, owner operated driving school. Currently certified Iowa Behind the Wheel Instructors may be eligible for up to a $1,500 bonus. Candidates who are not currently certified but are serious about completing the Iowa certification process may also be considered. About Jungle Driving School Jungle Driving School is building a better driver education experience in the Des Moines area. We help new and developing drivers build real world driving skills, confidence, judgment, and responsibility. This role is best suited for someone who is calm, reliable, professional, and comfortable working with students of different ages, backgrounds, and confidence levels. What You'll Do Teach students behind the wheel in a calm, structured, and professional way Help students build safe driving habits, confidence, and sound decision-making Follow Jungle Driving School's curriculum, lesson structure, and coaching approach Provide clear, constructive feedback to students Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, or adult students when appropriate Represent Jungle Driving School with professionalism and care Who We're Looking For We will consider two candidate paths: Currently Certified Iowa Behind-the-Wheel Instructor This is our preferred candidate profile. Certified instructors may be able to begin instruction after completing Jungle Driving School onboarding, required screenings, and approval to instruct. Certification Path Candidate Jungle Driving School will also consider strong candidates who are not currently certified but are willing to complete the Iowa certification process before beginning paid instruction. This path is not a quick one-time online course. It requires a real commitment over several weeks, including coursework, assignments, preparation, and behind-the-wheel training with a qualified instructor. Jungle Driving School may sponsor the cost of certification for selected candidates, subject to a written sponsorship agreement. Required Qualifications Must be at least 25 years old Valid driver's license Must meet Iowa DOT clear driving record standards Ability to pass background check and motor vehicle record review Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle and remain alert during instruction Ability to work afternoons, evenings, and/or weekends Reliable transportation Current Iowa Behind the Wheel instructor certification, or willingness to complete the certification process before beginning paid instruction Pay and Bonus $23.00 to $26.00 per hour Starting pay is based on certification status, experience, availability, instructional background, and fit. Currently certified Iowa Behind the Wheel Instructors may be eligible for up to a $1,500 bonus. Planned bonus structure for already certified instructors: $500 after the first two assigned students complete their full 6 hours of behind-the-wheel instruction with the instructor $500 after 60 days of active instruction $500 after 6 months of continued instruction or completion of a defined number of behind-the-wheel instruction hours Bonus terms will be reviewed during the hiring process and may vary based on certification status, availability, student volume, completed instruction, and business needs. Certification and Training Instructors must be certified before providing paid behind-the-wheel instruction. For selected candidates who are not yet certified, Jungle Driving School may sponsor the cost of required certification coursework. Sponsored candidates may be asked to sign a written certification sponsorship agreement before Jungle Driving School pays for the course. State-required certification coursework, assignments, preparation, and certification driving time are completed on the candidate's own time. About the Schedule This is a flexible part-time role. Hours may vary initially as Jungle Driving School builds its student base. Instructors who demonstrate strong performance, reliability, professionalism, and schedule availability will be prioritized as additional hours become available. This role may not be the right fit for candidates seeking immediate full-time hours or a fixed weekly schedule. Employment Screening Because this role involves working with minors, adults, and operating motor vehicles, employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check, motor vehicle record review, and other applicable screenings, which may include drug testing.
