ALLIANCE SAFETY COUNCIL INSTRUCTOR - PT
Summary Alliance Safety Council Instructors lead and facilitate Alliance Safety Council's signature programs, as well as OSHA program courses, ARSC reciprocal programs, and other courses as assigned. Teaching experience is required. Programs are delivered both in physical classroom environments and in online learning environments. Supervisory Responsibilities This position requires no direct supervisory responsibilities or skills. Essential Functions Prepare classroom and instructional materials for each class. Deliver instruction as prescribed in instructor guides and materials. Deliver instruction within the prescribed time frame. Be attentive to student needs. Be attentive to testing situations where cheating could occur and use prescribed measures to address the problem. Work with the Member Services department to provide an excellent customer experience to students and their employers. Attend regularly scheduled instructor meetings. Attend instructor development courses provided by the Safety Council. Look for situations that need to be corrected and submit corrective action requests to address them. Work with the Lead Instructor to ensure that class scheduling occurs in a timely and smooth manner. Other duties/tasks as may be assigned. Computer Skills Demonstrated competency with the software used to deliver Instructor-Led programs, including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, or similar tools with the same capabilities, and any other tools used in the delivery of Instructor-Led training courses. Demonstrated competency with virtual classroom tools, including but not limited to Zoom, WebEx, or similar tools, is required for this role. Physical Demands While performing the duties of the Instructor, the employee must be able to withstand performing typical office work, which involves extended periods of sitting at a computer station and performing computer-related work, which generally involves repetitive motion tasks on a computer keyboard and viewing multiple monitors for prolonged periods of time. The employee must also be able to regularly stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, and kneel and occasionally lift and/or move up to 35 pounds. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Mental Demands While performing the duties of the Instructor, the employee must be able to deliver courses both physically and online and must be able to engage a wide array of adult learners in both environments. This position will work regularly with a remote team across and outside of the organization. Work Schedule Instructors work on a part-time or contract basis to deliver courses, typically during standard business hours Monday through Friday, with occasional night and weekend shifts. Domestic travel opportunities may be occasionally offered. Qualifications The Instructor is an experienced professional with both industry expertise and proven success as a training professional. The successful candidate will have at least ten years experience in an industry vertical served by ASC (petrochemical, construction, energy, telecommunications, transportation, or closely related field,) with at least 2 years of experience focusing on workplace health and safety training. This individual must have at least five years of experience in safety and hazard identification and control as it applies to OSHA regulatory compliance. They must also meet minimum regulatory requirements for the course(s) that he/she teaches. An instructor must demonstrate skill in applying adult learning principles and best practices in a physical and virtual classroom environment. The successful candidate must possess excellent written and verbal communications skills leveraged when communicating in the physical or virtual classroom. Outstanding presentation and facilitation skills are expected in this role. Instructors must demonstrate competency in judgment and decision-making, coordination, critical thinking, listening and responding, and creative problem-solving. A demonstration of training and facilitation skills in the form of a mock training session is expected for the role. High-school or equivalent education is required for this role, with a preference for higher education credentials. Two years of training experience in addition to industry experience is required for this role.
