Job Description
The instructor will train, supervise, and monitor Engineering and Maintenance personnel on relevant business processes, work operations, and pertinent safety topics, as well as ensure the safety of passengers and employees through the proper instruction and enforcement of Authority standards, rules, and policies. The instructor will conduct structured, defined, and repeatable classroom and field instruction for both MBTA employees and outside agencies. Conduct classroom training, coaching, and field instruction on basic through advanced topics to E&M employees and contractors using various delivery methodologies (ILT, remote, eLearning, blended approaches, etc.) to support training programs. Conduct training on topics applicable to Engineering and Maintenance classifications, including but not limited to Roadway Worker Protection/ROW Safety, Entry Level driver/CDL, Basic Roadway Maintenance Machines, Operations of track switches, Wayside power switching, MBTA and E&M rules/policies/procedures, and other courses as assigned. [MC1] Assist in the development of training programs, curricula, competency matrices, certifications, development/performance plans, PowerPoint presentations, films, handouts, and written/practical examinations for the professional development and promotion of employees. Re-instruct employees on their duties when needed or directed by the Director of Training and Workforce Administration. Implement and maintain manual and computerized systems to monitor training activities and to ensure compliance with established budgets. Track students' progress, competencies, and assess their performance. Ensure all training is documented in the appropriate learning management system. Assist in conducting investigations of accidents and incidents as required. Conduct safety checks on equipment and vehicles. Participate in the testing of new and modified vehicles and equipment to assist in the analysis of equipment and the development of new training modules. Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and assist at emergencies, events, and/or transport crews or equipment as needed. Respond, either directly or through others, to emergencies twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. Respond to each inquiry, whether from a customer, vendor, or co-worker, in a courteous and professional manner. Uphold the rights and interests of the Authority while building and maintaining an effective relationship with employees. Assist in the management of a workforce by ensuring the fair and consistent application and strict adherence to the rules, regulations, collective bargaining agreements (if applicable), and policies of the Authority, including the EEO, Anti-Discrimination, Anti-Harassment, and Anti-Retaliation policies. Perform all other duties and projects that may be assigned. Supervision Not in a direct report manner, but will oversee all trainees in day-to-day instruction. Additional responsibilities may include a focus on one or more departments or locations. See applicable addendum for department or location-specific functions. A High School Diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) from an accredited institution. Five (5) years of experience in track, power, signal repair/maintenance/construction or operations. Effective organizational and analytical skills. Have the ability to evaluate and guide the performance of others in various training situations. Have excellent training and presentation skills. A valid driver's license in accordance with MBTA policy. Have the ability to use Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint or database applications. Have the ability to provide internal and external customers with a courteous and professional experience. Have the ability to work any and all shifts and/or locations assigned or directed. Be available to work twenty-four (24) hours per day, seven (7) days per week. Have the ability to supervise and work effectively with a diverse workforce. Have the ability to commute to assigned work locations in the Boston, MA metro area, as required by the role. Have the ability to provide internal and external customers with courteous and professional experiences. Have the ability to work effectively independently and as part of a team (or supervise, if required). Have the ability to uphold the rights and interests of the MBTA while building and maintaining effective relationships with employees and co-workers. Successful applicants must have the English language skills required for the effective performance of the position. Substitutions A nationally recognized certification or statewide/professional certification in a related field substitutes for one year of experience. Possession of a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with Air Brake endorsement. A degree in education, transportation, or a related field from an accredited institution. MOW/PSM/SCM
; and/or experience in a training capacity. Experience in Heavy or Light Rail Transportation Operations. Minimum one (1) year of experience facilitating instructor-led training.
