Job Description
The part-time CDL Permit Preparation Instructor will prepare student for the written Commercial Driver's license written knowledge exam via online or in person. The position includes class instruction, conducting mock tests, and mentoring students to see they meet compliance and FMCSA regulations. Duties will include planning, instructional delivery, and evaluation of program components, services, and related activities. The instructor will work closely with the Director of Director of Electrical Programs & Multicultural Outreach in matters related to and for the benefit of the specific program.
Curriculum Delivery:
Teach classroom theory covering CDL permit topics (general knowledge, airbrakes, combination, hazardous materials).Permit Exam Readiness:
Prepare students to pass the state commercial learner's permit (CLP) exam based on knowledge of DMV permit regulations.Student Support & Assessment:
Monitor progress, evaluate student readiness through quizzes, and offer remedial help.Compliance:
Maintain accurate records, including attendance and grades, in accordance with state and federal regulations.Orientation:
Guide new students on the CDL process, including necessary DOT physicals and documentation. Maintain a thorough, up-to-date syllabus for each course. Be available to students outside of class time through e-mail, telephone, and individual meetings as needed. In conjunction with the Director, develop appropriate learning objectives and evaluation methods that accurately measure student learning in the traditional classroom. Accurately complete and submit all required reports and student records by stated deadlines. Comply with all College policies and procedures. Ability to teach complex concepts clearly (e.g., airbrake systems). Valid CDL Class A license. 3 plus years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience. Clean driving record and the ability to pass a DOT physical. Strong communication skills, patience, and knowledge of Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) regulations.Education:
High School Diploma or GED. Experience in training others in a workforce or classroom/lab setting. Availability to teach daytime and online classes Previous experience as a driver trainer or instructor. Basic computer skills for maintaining electronic records and online classes.
