American Safety Transit LLC are seeking TWO dynamic and experienced Driving Instructor specializing in motorcoach training to join our team in both Lake Charles, LA & Port Arthur, TX (1 Instructor assigned to each location). In this role, you will be responsible for instructing aspiring commercial drivers, focusing on motorcoach operations, safety protocols, and regulatory compliance. Position Summary:
The Motor Coach Driver Trainer is responsible for training, evaluating, and mentoring new and existing drivers in the safe and professional operation of motor coaches and passenger transportation vehicles in compliance withDOT/FMCSA
regulations and American Safety Transit LLC policies. This position conducts classroom instruction, behind-the-wheel training, driver evaluations, and competency assessments while promoting safety, regulatory compliance, and customer service excellence throughout transportation operations.Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Instruction & Training Conduct classroom instruction coveringDOT/FMCSA
regulations, company policies, defensive driving techniques, passenger safety procedures, and customer service expectations. Provide behind-the-wheel training on closed courses and public roadways for motor coach operations. Train drivers on proper pre-trip, enroute, and post-trip vehicle inspection procedures. Instruct drivers on safe loading and unloading of passengers and baggage handling procedures. Assist in transitioning qualified school bus drivers into motor coach operations through structured training and evaluation programs. Conduct route familiarization, trip planning, and operational readiness training. Provide remedial training and coaching for drivers requiring additional support or corrective instruction. Compliance & Licensing Ensure all training activities comply with FMCSA regulations, DOT standards, state requirements, and company policies. Verify driver qualifications, endorsements, medical certifications, and compliance documentation. Maintain knowledge of current DOT regulations, Hours of Service (HOS) requirements, safety standards, and transportation best practices. Assist management with maintaining training compliance programs and driver qualification standards. Evaluation & Certification Conduct road tests, driver evaluations, and competency assessments for applicants and current drivers. Evaluate driver performance during training exercises, route operations, and passenger service assignments. Perform final check-off drives and determine driver readiness for independent passenger service operations. Document deficiencies, corrective action recommendations, and training progress. Participate in accident reviews, incident investigations, and driver performance assessments when requested. Safety & Coaching Promote a strong culture of safety, professionalism, and regulatory compliance throughout the organization. Reinforce defensive driving principles and safe vehicle operation practices. Provide constructive coaching, mentoring, and corrective feedback to drivers. Identify unsafe driving behaviors or operational concerns and recommend corrective measures. Participate in safety meetings, ongoing training initiatives, and operational improvement programs. Record Management & Administrative Duties Maintain accurate records of training hours, certifications, evaluations, licensing status, and driver performance documentation. Prepare and submit training reports, evaluation forms, and compliance documentation in a timely manner. Assist with new hire orientation and onboarding activities for transportation personnel. Coordinate training schedules and operational training needs with management and dispatch personnel. Assist with updating training materials, curriculum, and safety procedures as regulations or operational needs change. Qualifications, Requirements, Skills, and Competencies Minimum age: 25 years. Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) - Class B or higher with Passenger (P) Endorsement and Air Brake Certification. Current DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate. Minimum two (2) years of verifiable commercial passenger transportation experience preferred. Strong knowledge of motor coach systems, DOT regulations, FMCSA compliance standards, and passenger transportation safety requirements. Clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) with no major violations within the past three (3) years. Ability to effectively communicate and teach driving techniques through classroom instruction, demonstrations, and real-time coaching. Strong interpersonal, leadership, customer service, and public speaking skills. Ability to evaluate driver competency and provide professional feedback and corrective guidance. Excellent driving, coaching, instructional, and situational awareness skills. Strong attention to detail, organizational, and time management abilities. Ability to adapt training methods to varying experience levels and learning styles. Ability to maintain accurate records and complete training documentation timely and accurately. Computer literacy and ability to utilize electronic logging systems, training systems, dispatch software, and reporting tools. Must pass a DOT pre-employment drug screen, background check, and road test. Physical Requirements and Work Environment Ability to operate a motor coach or passenger vehicle for extended periods of time. Frequent bending, kneeling, climbing, standing, and walking during vehicle inspections and training activities. Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, including luggage, training materials, or equipment. Ability to safely assist passengers and trainees entering and exiting vehicles. Work is performed in both indoor classroom settings and outdoor operational environments with regular exposure to varying weather and traffic conditions. Work schedules may include weekends, holidays, evenings, overnight travel, or extended shifts based on operational training needs. Must remain alert, attentive, and safety-focused while conducting training and vehicle operations.Safety and Compliance:
