Job Description

The Economics Department at Whittier College seeks to hire 1-3 Adjunct Faculty for Fall 2026. Prospective candidates may apply to teach
ECON 201
Principles of Microeconomics (3 credits) and/or
ECON 386
Growth & Development (3 credits) starting August 2026.
Salary Range:

ECON 201
Instructors with a minimum of ABD status or earned PhD, with specialization in Microeconomics and teaching (or TA) experience with Introductory Microeconomics are preferred.
ECON 386
Instructors with a minimum of ABD status or earned PhD, with specialization in Development Economics and teaching (or TA) experience with Development Economics are preferred. Work Authorization Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States at the time of application and throughout the duration of employment. Whittier College does not sponsor employment-based visas for adjunct faculty appointments and does not participate in the E-Verify program. ECON 201
Principles of Economics:
Micro - Introduction to the theory of price and market behavior. Includes analysis of consumer choice, decisions by firms, industrial organization, and governmental policy as it affects markets. Also includes discussion of economic efficiency and income distribution in the market economy. No prerequisite(s).
Class times:
Section 03: Lecture Monday, Wednesday, & Friday, 10:00-10:50am. Section 02: Lecture Monday, Wednesday, & Friday, 11:00-11:50am.
Office hours:
Two in-person office hours per section taught each week.
ECON 386
Growth & Development - Surveys the main economic models of growth and development.
Topics include:
Why are some countries rich and others poor? Can less developed countries catch up with the income level of the developed world? What are the determinants of economic growth and development? Can growth continue forever? The course addresses policy issues related to poverty, income distribution, structural change, savings, foreign trade.

ECON 200
Principles of Economics:
Macro or
ECON 201
Principles of Economics:
Micro.
Class times:
Lecture Monday & Wednesday, 1:30-2:50pm.
