Hefei University of Technology (HFUT), a national key university in Hefei, Anhui Province, China, with over 40,000 students, collaborates with Clark University on an undergraduate program in International Economics and Trade, established in 2015. Clark faculty teaching in this program are offered free accommodation: a suite near campus (10-minute walk) with breakfast or a 30-minute drive (with free shuttles) to a teacher's apartment with a kitchen. Hefei, a "vibrant city of innovation," ranked 36th in the 2024 Global Innovation Index's Science and Technology Cluster Ranking. The city has convenient transportation, including Hefeinan Railway Station, a major high-speed rail hub in East China, offering travel to cities like Nanjing (50 minutes), Shanghai (2 hours), and Beijing (3.5 hours). Hefei Xinqiao International Airport, serving domestic and international flights, is a 40-minute drive from the campus. Anhui Province features scenic spots like Mountain Huangshan and the ancient villages of Xidi and Hongcun, all UNESCO World Heritage sites. Anhui is also known for Anhui cuisine, one of China's eight major cuisines.
Job Description:
The Office of Global Engagement at Clark University invites applications for an instructor position to teach a course titled "Intermediate Micro-Economics with Calculus" during the Fall 2026 semester in person at our partner institution (Hefei University of Technology) in China. This is a part-time, non-tenure line, renewable position based upon satisfactory performance. As with other faculty appointments, teaching customarily includes course development, class time, class preparation, suitable office hours, grading, finals, classroom accounting, and other responsibilities commonly associated with university-level teaching. Teaching faculty are key contributors to the university's academic mission, which is to prepare students to meet the challenges of a complex and rapidly changing society. The teaching load for this position is one course with 3 sections, a total of 18 contact hours a week from November 9, 2026 to January 10, 2027.
Requirements:
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship despite the fact that the teaching will take place in Hefei, China. Applicants must have an MA in a relevant field (PhD preferred) or an appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or higher with a minimum of 3 years of teaching experience in Higher Education. Applicants must be willing to relocate to China for a minimum length of 8 weeks. Applicants must have experience in curriculum design, development of course objectives and outcomes, and assessing student learning. The assignment is also subject to adhering to the policies and teaching requirements of our partner University, including the submission of a class syllabus using their template, two versions of the final exam, a detailed grading sheet, class-by-class teaching plans, and an analysis of the distribution of grades on the final exam and in the class.
Additional Information:
International Health insurance provided by Clark for the duration of the time teaching in China. Accommodation in China is provided by HFUT free of charge. Flights to and from China and transfer from airport to housing are covered by Clark. Visa application process supported, and any fees accrued in the process to be reimbursed.
Expected Hiring Range:
$18300 to $21000
