POSITION SUMMARY
Adjunct Faculty responsibilities include classroom instruction, facilitatingmeaningful learning of course outcomes, assisting students toward successful program completion, and promoting the academic well-being ofthe program. Adjunct Faculty also participate in activities that promote the stature of the academic programs, Departments, and Colleges andabide by the mandates set by the South University Board of Trustees and Administration. Incumbent must ensure that the South Universityphilosophy is considered in carrying out the duties and responsibilities of this position: quality services to clients; development, growth,involvement, and recognition of employees; sound economic principles; and maintenance of an environment that is conducive to innovation,positive thinking, and expansion. (This is a campus-based position, not remote)
KEY JOB ELEMENTS
Perform Faculty responsibilities as outlined in the Faculty jobdescription and the Faculty Supplement to the South University Employee Handbook. Designs and delivers instruction in alignmentwith the South University model. Relates professional/life/industry experience to learning by continuing professional/technicalskills development and introducing professional/industry perspective into courses. Promotes student success by showing flexibilityand exhibiting a passion for teaching and students. Manages the educational process to ensure a positive educationalexperience. Practices effective outreach to at-risk and/or absent students. Communicates consistently and effectivelywith Supervisors, University Administrators, Faculty, and other South University Departments. Manages the learning environment bykeeping accurate records and enforcing academic policies consistent with the University, College/School, Campus, or Online Division. Participates in the Faculty development process to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities. Supports the local campus byparticipating in committee events, such as orientation and graduation, as well as various workshops and meetings.
REQUIREMENTS
For graduate programs, a terminal degree from a regionally accreditedinstitution in the discipline to be taught, with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in theteaching discipline) required. For undergraduate programs, a master's degree from a regionally accredited institution in thediscipline to be taught, with a concentration in the teaching discipline (minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the teaching discipline),is required. At least six months of teaching experience at another post-secondary education institution (preferred). Active, valid, and unencumbered state licensure or certification as applicable to the discipline. Membership in a professionalassociation tied to the area of instruction (preferred). Practical experience in the discipline of the program and knowledge ofcurrent best practices (in the field). Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to buildsuccessful relationships with students and faculty. Excellent time management and attention to detail. Computer-based skills(i.e., software, analytical, and report writing skills) and experience with computerized learning management systems.
