All candidates must be eligible to work and live in the U.S. Department Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum - 260050 Working Location (City, State) Boone, NC Position Summary Information Minimum Qualifications The Department of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum in the Reich College of Education at Appalachian State University seeks qualified candidates to fill a 1-year, non- tenure-track position at the Lecturer level in Education. Minimum qualifications for the position include the following: Master's Degree in Education, Curriculum & Instruction, or closely related area; Ability to teach education core and methods courses at the undergraduate level; Commitment to working in a community of practice, to a social constructivist perspective of teaching and learning, to the integration of field experiences in professional coursework, and to working with diverse populations; Three years minimum teaching experience in P-12 school settings required; Eligibility for North Carolina teaching licensure. Areas of Interest (No Minimum Level Required) Experience working with and/or teaching courses to undergraduate teacher education candidates; Experience establishing and maintaining relationships with public schools; Experience with supervising and mentoring preservice teacher candidates in the field and/or coordinating/monitoring supervision of candidates' placements; Expertise surrounding authentic and standard-based assessments License/Certification Required Eligibility for North Carolina teaching licensure required. Description of the Department or Unit The Department of Learning, Teaching, and Curriculum is the Reich College of Education's largest Department, serving future and current K-12 Teachers and Curriculum Specialists. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Primary responsibilities include teaching pre-service Elementary EducationP courses at the undergraduate level. Pre-service education courses may include methods and related education courses; generalist education courses that include curriculum design, assessment, language learning; classroom management; practicum supervision; and/or student teaching supervision.. Other responsibilities include, but are not limited to, attending departmental/program level meetings, participating in partnerships and professional development with area schools, and teaching at off-campus sites. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. Evidence of successful defense of the dissertation must be received by July 31 for a fall hire or November 30 for a spring hire. If confirmation of defense is not provided by the deadline, the candidate will receive a new one-year fixed-term contract and be hired at the rank of Instructor. The candidate's salary will also be reduced to a lower rate commensurate with other full-time instructors in the same department. However, if degree verification is provided before the end of the one-year fixed-term contract, the candidate will be returned to the rank of assistant professor with commensurate compensation beginning July 1 of the following academic year.
