: This course surveys medical healthcare law as it applies to naturopathic physicians. Topics include licensing and regulation, reporting requirements, informed consent, patient confidentiality, advanced directives, HIPAA, malpractice and provider service agreements.REQUIREMENTS
The individual must have the education, experience, skill and knowledge in area of focus they will be teaching. Law Degree and/or other terminal degree. Must be able to demonstrate advanced knowledge in healthcare law. Must either be able to speak to or find guest speakers who can speak to the following: licensing and regulation, reporting, informed consent, confidentiality, advanced directives, HIPAA, malpractice and provider service agreements. Basic duties include the following : Must be able to teach in a didactic setting Will teach/facilitate assigned education experiences including problem based small study groups Will be expected to communicate with other faculty in team teaching setting Academic Education duties include the following: Teach/facilitate assigned educational experiences, including such activities as lecture, clinical practice, laboratory, seminar, problem-based small group study, standardized patient exercises, and elective courses. Develop and manage educational and evaluative experiences for a diverse population of students. Collaborate with administrators and faculty in assessment of individual teaching effectiveness and the effectiveness of the curriculum while contributing to a culture of continuous improvement. Assess student learning outcomes and make or recommend appropriate course or program modifications based on results. Review, update, and maintain syllabi in collaboration with other faculty and administrators in accordance with NUNM policies, procedures, and practices. Post and maintain office hours as stipulated in current policy. Establish and maintain student instructional records, and submit grades in a timely manner. Complete and submit self-evaluations, reports and other documents as assigned or requested in a timely manner.
