This is an endowed faculty leadership position established to honor and recognize a faculty member of superior distinction in pharmacy practice, education, research, and service. Under the general supervision of the Dean, the Endowed Chair & Associate/Full Professor is responsible for all administrative and academic leadership functions of the Department of Pharmacy Practice & Administration while also fulfilling the responsibilities of a tenured faculty member within the PharmD program. The position provides financial support above and beyond base salary to advance excellence in research, teaching, and service. The faculty members will teach professional pharmacy courses, develop and maintain a clinical practice site, precept and train pharmacy students and residents in IPPE and APPE experiential programs, engage in scholarly research, and provide service to the College, University, profession, and community. The position also supports departmental growth through faculty development, curricular innovation, postgraduate training oversight, and funded research initiatives.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS
This endowed position is reserved for an academic leader with a national reputation in pharmacy practice, education, leadership, and research. The Chair is expected to foster innovation, enhance departmental visibility, and promote a culture of excellence aligned with the College's mission and strategic goals. Essential Duties Summary Provide strategic, administrative, and academic leadership for the Department of Pharmacy Practice & Administration. Teach didactic and experiential programs in classroom, online, laboratory, institutional, and clinical settings, including clinical site development and patient care service provision. Develop and maintain clinical practice sites that support experiential education and patient care services. Precept and mentor pharmacy students, residents, fellows, and pharmacy interns in IPPE and APPE experiential programs. Collaborate with the Office of Educational Effectiveness to ensure robust design, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement of PharmD program outcomes. Partner with the Office of Experiential Training to maintain and expand quality clinical practice sites for faculty and students. Implement and oversee continuous professional development programs for faculty in teaching, scholarship, service, innovation, and clinical practice. Engage in scholarly and clinical research activities, including publication in peer-reviewed journals and pursuit of external funding opportunities. Oversee the administration and quality assurance of postgraduate training programs, includingPGY1, PGY2
residencies, and fellowships. Lead and support faculty in curricular development, teaching excellence, scholarly productivity, and growth in funded research. Serve on departmental, college, university, and professional committees and participate in internal and external conferences, seminars, and professional organizations. Provide service to the College, University, profession, and community. Perform other duties as assigned. % FTE 1.0 Hiring Range $136,667.00 - $173,375.00 Education Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) or Bachelor of Pharmacy degree plus a terminal degree in a health-related and/or education-related discipline (PhD, EdD, or equivalent). Completion of a PGY1 ASHP-accredited residency and/or fellowship preferred. Required Licensing/Certification Licensed pharmacist in the State of Texas or eligible for licensure within one (1) year of employment. Valid Texas Driver's License preferred.Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of:
Pharmacy education, accreditation standards, and experiential education practices. Departmental policies, procedures, and supervisory practices. Research administration and funded grant processes. Microsoft Office 365 or similar applications. Skill in: Strategic leadership and organizational management. Problem-solving and decision-making. Coordinating and supervising the work of others. Time management and multitasking. Both verbal and written communication. Ability to: Lead faculty in curricular development, teaching excellence, scholarly activity, and growth in funded research. Work independently and collaboratively. Prepare detailed reports and presentations. Communicate effectively with faculty, students, staff, administrators, healthcare professionals, and external stakeholders. Demonstrate strong commitment to teaching, scholarship, service, and innovation. Work Experience Minimum of six (6) years of academic faculty experience in a school or college of pharmacy with demonstrated strength in teaching, patient care practice, and scholarly activity. Minimum of ten (10) years of progressively responsible academic and/or administrative leadership experience preferred. Successful candidates should demonstrate a distinguished record of successful program administration, curricular leadership, research productivity, and professional service, including evidence of national recognition in pharmacy practice, research, teaching, and/or leadership in professional organizations. Demonstrated ability to secure external funding and support funded research initiatives. The candidate must be eligible for tenure upon hire at the Associate or Full Professor level in accordance with the COPHS Promotion & Tenure guidelines. Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment, or water treatment systems.
