District Office - Student Services Full Time Position (1.0 FTE) The Juneau School District, located in Southeast Alaska, is accepting applications for the position of Director of Student Services . The District serves approximately 4,000 students in preschool through grade twelve and offers a wide range of academic and support services designed to ensure that every student has access to a high-quality education. The Director of Student Services serves as a member of the Superintendent's Cabinet and provides leadership and oversight for districtwide student support programs including special education, Section 504 services, health services, counseling supports, and programs designed to ensure equitable access to education for all students.
SUMMARY:
The Director of Student Services provides strategic leadership, program oversight, and regulatory compliance for the district's student support services. The position ensures that programs serving students with disabilities and other specialized needs operate effectively and in compliance with federal and state law. The Director works closely with principals, district leadership, families, and community agencies to ensure coordinated and responsive services that support student success, well-being, and access to educational opportunities.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Master's degree from a regionally accredited university. Valid Alaska Type B Administrative Certificate, or ability to obtain upon hire. Minimum three years of successful teaching experience in special education. Demonstrated experience with IDEA, Section 504, and related federal and state education regulations.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum three years of successful administrative experience. Experience leading district-level student services or special education programs. Knowledge of multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS) and inclusive instructional practices. Experience coordinating services across schools and community agencies. Demonstrated success in program leadership, staff supervision, and compliance monitoring.
TYPICAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a member of the Superintendent's Cabinet, providing leadership and expertise on student services. Provides oversight for special education, Section 504 services, health services, and other student support programs. Ensures district compliance with IDEA, Section 504, ADA, and applicable state regulations. Supervises and supports Student Services staff and coordinates services across district schools. Develops and implements systems that support student access, inclusion, and educational success. Collaborates with principals and staff to implement effective student support strategies. Coordinates with community agencies and partner organizations to support student needs. Oversees required reporting and compliance with state and federal program requirements. Supports the development and implementation of professional learning related to student services. Participates in district strategic planning and continuous improvement efforts. Other duties as assigned. This is a 260-day contract; salary placement is dependent on education and experience.
