Job Description

Athletic Director
QUALIFICATIONS
1. Administrative experience in athletics. 2. Experience in athletics (as Varsity Head Coach) at the university or high school level. 3. Administrative experience in a K-12 educational setting.
SALARY LEVEL
: Based upon board approved salary schedule
FLSA STATUS
: Exempt
REPORTS TO
: Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT
Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.
REQUIRED DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Maintains files and records required by policy, regulation, law and good practice. 2. Responds to requests for information. 3. Implements board policies and advises the administration on legal matters related to athletics. 4. Assesses department needs through consultation with students, staff, parents and develops policy recommendations for the Board's consideration and action. 5. Develops and updates brochures, handbooks, and policy manuals. 6. Recommends capital improvements and negotiated contracts and agreements. 7. Formulates specifications to be incorporated into contracts and bids. 8. Supervises all ticket sales and fund-raising events of the athletic program. 9. Administers the receipt and disbursement of student activity cash funds. 10. Prepares schedules for use of facilities. 11. Issues timely announcements of upcoming events and deadlines. 12. Hires officials, team physicians, supervisors and police, for supervision of home contests. 13. Arranges transportation for athletic contest participants. 14. Verifies each athlete's eligibility for participation in each sport. 15. Arranges all details of visiting teams' needs, as appropriate. 16. Provides for emergency health care and first aid treatment. 17. Makes coaching assignment recommendations. 18. Investigates complaints regarding employee conduct or performance. 19. Resolves staff problems and provides support to coaches. 20. Enforces the federal, state and board policy on equal educational opportunity. 21. Develops and supervises an effective, comprehensive and equal opportunities athletic program for all male and female students. 22. Inspects buildings and grounds, machines and equipment. Determines safety and obsolescence of equipment. 23. Oversees the implementation of the insurance program covering school athletes. 24. Plans and supervises an annual recognition program for school athletes.

1. Ability to use the database, spreadsheet, and word processing applications. 2. Ability to speak publicly to groups and media. 3. Ability to make rational decisions under stressful conditions. 4. Ability to interact and communicate effectively with a variety of audiences. 5. Ability to interact and collaborate with the community. 6. Ability to motivate student athletes and coaches.
EVALUATION
Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
