Full Job Description Job Goals :
To serve as an instructional and administrative leader of the school, to work with staff, students and community to ensure a high quality educational program, and to formulate and accomplish the school mission.
Qualifications:
Valid Alabama teacher's certificate. Master's degree, administrative certification from an accredited college/university and three (3) years of successful teaching experience Such alternative to the above qualifications as the Board may require.

Principal or Appropriate Supervisor Background Check Required:
(Ala. Code §16-22A-5) Upon offer of employment, employees will be required to submit legible fingerprints for a background review by the Alabama Bureau of Investigation and the Federal Bureau of Investigation. Background checks may not be more than ten (10) years old. A new background check is required for anyone new to Madison City Schools, regardless of the recency of the ABI and FBI background checks.
Student Safety & Security:

Staff must promptly report suspected child abuse or neglect to law enforcement authorities as required by Alabama law. Compliance with these expectations is a condition of employment.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Comprehensive knowledge of principles and practices of modern education and ability to apply them to the needs of the school. Comprehensive knowledge of current curriculum and instructional practices and trends. Ability to plan and organize effectively. Ability to plan and supervise the work of others. Ability to develop effective working relationships with students, staff and the school community. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing. Knowledge of the law as pertaining to schools. Knowledge of various evaluation tools. Knowledge of state and local policies and procedures. Skills in recruitment, selection, induction and assignment of personnel. Skills in maintaining effective discipline. Ability to plan and conduct faculty meetings. Ability to evaluate staff effectively. Ability to manage fiscal resources. Physical mobility, dexterity, strength and visual acuity to meet student needs, deal with student problems and assist with building maintenance problems and school ground monitoring activities.
Essential Functions:
Assists in providing effective leadership in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the instructional program. Assists in interpreting and enforcing local, state and federal policies, regulations and laws. Assists the principal in the personnel function. Assists the principal in securing, maintaining and managing material resources. Assists in improving student attendance. Assists with scheduling and assigning students for instruction. Assists with extracurricular activities as the level assigned. Assists with the supervision of classroom instruction. Assists with the distribution and accounting of textbooks and instructional supplies. Assists with curriculum development and other related matters. Prepares such reports as assigned. Assists with inspection of the physical plant and grounds and reports maintenance/custodial needs. Assists with procedures related to health and safety of staff and students Assumes overall responsibility for the school in the absence of the principal. Is on call when necessary to provide proper building security and building maintenance, and to handle emergency situations. Assumes other reasonable and equitable job-related duties assigned by the immediate supervisor. This position will be subject to the Students First Act of 2011. Madison City Schools reserves the right to fill this position by transfer of a qualified applicant who is already employed by Madison City Schools. Under the Students First Act of 2011, no credit toward tenure or non-probationary status is earned in the initial school year of employment if the date of hire occurs after September 30.
