Job Description
The Assistant Athletic Director - Head of Middle School Athletics provides leadership and day-to-day management for Menlo's 6th-8th grade athletics program, which also serves as the Middle School physical education experience. Reporting to the Director of Athletics, this role ensures that students are engaged and coached in their physical and social development across four athletic seasons, while partnering closely with coaches, families, and school leaders to maintain a strong and values-based program. This is a full-time, in-person role that requires some evening and weekend attendance at various athletic competitions and school events throughout the year. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Overseeing the daily middle school sports program and ensure the PE-through-athletics model supports student engagement and physical development. Managing the transition between four athletic seasons each year, including team formation, student placements, and coach assignments. Monitoring student participation and growth, with an emphasis on preparing students for future Upper School athletics experiences. Collaborating with the Athletic Director to recruit, interview, hire, and onboard middle school coaches. Providing regular oversight, feedback, and mentorship to middle school coaches to ensure alignment with Menlo's coaching philosophy and Character Above All values. Managing scheduling for middle school practices and home contests and helping ensure equitable access to athletic facilities. Coordinating transportation for away contests, secure officials for home games, and oversee game-day administration. Serving as the primary point of contact for middle school families regarding schedules, team placements, and program expectations.
Minimum Requirements:
Minimum education is a Bachelor's degree A minimum of 5 years of leadership experience in athletics administration, coaching, physical education, or a related school-based leadership role. Strong understanding of middle school student development and the ability to build age-appropriate, inclusive athletics experiences. Demonstrated ability to supervise, mentor, and evaluate coaches and staff. Strong organizational and operational skills, including scheduling, logistics, and event management. Excellent communication skills and the ability to build strong partnerships with students, families, coaches, and school leaders. Genuine enthusiasm for working with student-athletes and a deep commitment to fostering a joyful, values-based athletics environment that prioritizes character, participation, and growth. Experience with Google Workspace, scheduling and project management platforms, Team Snap, and website CMS management platforms.MENLO SCHOOL ATHLETICS VALUES

In the spirit of pay transparency, we share the base salary range for this position for the 2026-2027 academic year. The full pay range, which encompasses all experience levels, is $120,000 - $160,000. Within this broad range, we pay in accordance with what is reasonably expected given an individual's experience level. Base salary is exclusive of fringe benefits, employer contributions to retirement plans, and potential stipends (for eligible employees). Pay ranges at Menlo are reasonable estimates of what the School anticipates paying for a role, but are not guaranteed. If hired at Menlo School, your final base salary will be determined by factors such as skills, education, experience, job level, part-time status, and the number of months worked per academic year. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity with our current employees as a part of any final offer. Please note that the generous range mentioned above is the full base salary range for the role. Hiring at the top of the range is not typical at Menlo School to allow for future and continued salary growth.Job ID:
