Helix has served its community as a traditional public high school from 1951 - 1996, then as a public charter school from 1998 to present. Helix was the first public comprehensive high school in California to convert to a charter high school, and while much about the educational program has changed to best serve the student population, the tradition of the school has remained. Helix boasts a history of academic excellence; outstanding arts, athletics, and activities; and it continues to serve as a community school, while welcoming those in the surrounding areas through its charter status.

The contact information for the Title IX Coordinator, Helix's Title IX notice of nondiscrimination, and additional information regarding your rights under Title IX are available on the Helix website at: www.helixcharter.net/titleix Job Summary Job Summary Under the direction of the Executive Director and/or designee, the Director of Special Education provides visionary leadership, administration, coordination, and oversight for all special education programs, services, personnel, compliance systems, and related operations for Helix Charter High School as an independent Local Educational Agency (LEA). The Director is responsible for ensuring that all students with disabilities receive a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE) in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE) in accordance with the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), California Education Code, Section 504, and all applicable federal and state laws and regulations. The Director serves as the school's lead administrator for special education and acts as the primary liaison to the SELPA, California Department of Education (CDE), outside agencies, legal counsel, and community partners. The Director collaborates closely with school leadership, teachers, related service providers, families, and support staff to implement a comprehensive and student-centered special education program aligned to the school's mission, instructional priorities, Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS), and equity goals.
