Principal, Elementary and Middle School A.Primary Function:
Under the direct supervision of the Headmaster, work in close cooperation with the support and teaching staff, parents, and other members of the school community, determine common educational goals and objectives that will provide an effective educational program directed toward meeting the spiritual, intellectual, emotional, and social needs of each student, to act as the educational instructional leader and manager of the school's educational environment, provide instructional leadership to teaching staff including curriculum planning, review, and implementation, and professional development. Responsible to plan, organize, and control the day to day functionalities of the school's educational environment, the safety and welfare of students, teaching staff, and activities. Ensures a safe, pleasant, and effective educational atmosphere, provides discipline as necessary and enforces school and board policies. B.Directly Responsible to:

Teachers, Special Area Teachers, and Support Staff D.Duties and Responsibilities:
- Serves as instructional leader and operational manager of the school facility
- Organize time and resources to ensure the completion of multiple assignments in a timely manner.
- Maintains positive relations with parents, parent groups, school volunteers, and outside agencies
- Works closely with Headmaster developing long and short range plans to improve the instructional processes
- Submit to Headmaster reports including but not limited to curriculum, teacher evaluations, testing, teaching methods, and any other report deemed necessary to inform about programs, problems, and progress
- Provide written instructions regarding student discipline and behavior standards, provide opportunities for students and staff to establish and maintain such standards, counsel with students, parents, and staff regarding specific discipline problems
- Establish systematic procedures for scheduling and programming students and teachers, and maintain written records and schedules
- Assume additional responsibilities as designated by the Headmaster
- Actively participate in programs of personal professional growth
- Establish and maintain a positive learning climate, including an effective discipline and supervision plan
- Manage school activities including supervision, assemblies, special events, and chapels
- Direct and assists assigned staff in carrying out an effective instructional program through conferences, meetings, bulletins, in-service workshops, demonstrations, modeling, classroom visits, and consistent communications
- Attends at least one church service weekly at Horizon Christian fellowship North County
Regarding Curriculum and Instruction:
o Provides for and participates in cooperative efforts in the assessment of educational needs of the school, assists in the preparation of school goals and measurable educational objectives. o Responsible for preparation, evaluation, and revision of instructional objectives to assure their harmony with total school goals o Works with administrative personnel to coordinate processes for the effective functioning of the school o Maintains current educational/administrative credentials o Other duties as assigned o Analyze problems and make appropriate decisionsRegarding Staff:
o Recruit, screen, interview, and train certificated and classified personnel o Submit recommendations to the headmaster for staff selection and placement o Promotes a school climate which elicits optimum staff involvement, creativity, and commitment to school goals and educational objectives o Responsible for personnel evaluations, assessment, and recommends appropriate action o Responsible to develop shared leadership and decision making with staff o Assign teachers to classroom and students to classes o Supervise and evaluate certificated and classified personnel at the school site by providing regular and timely feedback o Provide teachers with specific information regarding teaching assignments and related duties and provide written schedules for teacher useRegarding Students:
o Maintains disciplinary system and communicates effectively to teachers and parents keeping accurate records of specific cases o Assists and support teachers in modifying student behavior o Has a positive demeanor with students o Maintains a positive, loving, and Christ centered environment for all students o Be available to students for counseling and referral services- Regarding School Community and Parent Relations o Be available to parents o Work closely with teachers in communicating with parents o Responsible over all school events (i.e chapels, praise and worship, graduations, open houses…) o Coordinates parent volunteering o Foster strong church/school connection o Partner with Horizon to plan community events
- Regarding Budget and Site Management o Maintains the school budget allotted for department o Works with Headmaster on budgeting/purchasing o Establishes priorities for educational materials to meet the needs of students and teachers with the allowable anticipated funds o Responsible for on-going evaluation, implementation and budgeting of categorical programs

Desirable Qualifications:
- Five or more years of successful teaching experience at the appropriate levels
- Demonstrated leadership skills and organizational skills
- Demonstrated written and oral communication skills
- Excellent speaking skills, ability to speak in front of large groups of people
- Ability to relate well to students, staff, and parents
- Physical and emotional stamina
- Ability to: o Plan, organize, develop, and conduct a comprehensive instructional program o Effectively assess the educational needs of students, and design, develop and implement education plans o Provide and promote and environment that is conducive to learning o Communicate regularly to parents and students in a sensitive manner o Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with others F.
