Location:
Riverside, CALIFORNIA The Graduate Student Services Advisor for Chemistry is responsible for managing the full lifecycle of graduate student administration, academic operations, and faculty coordination within the department. This role oversees quarterly processes including the development and distribution of Teaching Assistant (TA) call letters, coordination of TA assignments, and collaboration with faculty and leadership to ensure accurate student funding information is communicated and maintained. The coordinator is responsible for building and maintaining the academic course schedule in Banner, using historical data to project future offerings, coordinating classroom assignments, and ensuring alignment with departmental space guidelines. They also manage student enrollment by ensuring compliance with unit requirements, tracking degree progress, and facilitating enrollment adjustments in accordance with university policy. In partnership with financial analysts, the role administers graduate student funding by entering TA, GSR, and stipend support into systems such as GSMS, while monitoring reports to resolve registration and employment issues. In addition, the position coordinates major academic milestones and examinations, including Orientation Exams, Second-Year Research Evaluations (SYRE), Oral Qualifying Exams, and Final Defenses. Responsibilities include scheduling, communications with students and faculty committees, preparation of materials, compliance with Graduate Division requirements, and documentation of outcomes. The coordinator leads the planning and execution of graduate student orientation, including program scheduling, logistics, faculty coordination, and onboarding communications, while also managing annual student reviews by compiling progress data, preparing evaluation summaries, and distributing official letters. The role plays a key part in graduate recruitment by maintaining application systems such as Slate, tracking applicant data, supporting recruitment events, and coordinating visit weekends. Ongoing responsibilities include maintaining accurate student records in Banner, processing petitions through R'Grad, coordinating regular communications such as safety notices and seminar reminders, managing physical and digital student files, and supporting departmental operations such as faculty onboarding and compliance tracking. This position serves as a central liaison between faculty, students, and administrative units, ensuring the integrity, accuracy, and efficiency of graduate program operations while supporting student success and adherence to institutional policies. The full salary range for the Graduate Student Advisor is $56,000 - $96,400 annually. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $56,000 - $76,200 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Applicants must have current work authorization when accepting a UCR staff position. Currently, we are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa for staff. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.
