Job Description:
San Francisco Film School is hiring a VA School Certifying Official (SCO) to support veteran and military-connected students through the administration of VA education benefits and related compliance processes. This role is responsible for certifying student enrollments, maintaining accurate records, supporting audits and compliance reviews, and assisting students throughout the GI Bill and Tuition Assistance process. The ideal candidate is organized, detail-oriented, responsive and comfortable working within strict regulatory requirements and deadlines. What You'll Do 1. Manage VA Certifications & Student Reporting
  • Certify student enrollments and enrollment changes with the Department of Veterans Affairs
  • Process add/drop amendments, withdrawals, graduations and program completions
  • Verify student eligibility for VA education benefits
  • Maintain accurate certification records and supporting documentation
  • Respond to inquiries from the VA regarding student certifications and reporting
  • Maintain internal spreadsheets and tracking systems related to certifications and student status 2. Maintain Compliance & Audit Readiness
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, VA and institutional policies related to veteran education benefits
  • Maintain organized, audit-ready records in accordance with VA retention requirements
  • Assist during State Approving Agency (SAA) surveys and VA compliance audits
  • Stay informed on current VA policies, annual training requirements and regulatory updates
  • Support institutional reporting and documentation processes related to veteran students 3. Support Students & Campus Operations
  • Guide veterans, service members, and eligible dependents through the GI Bill and Tuition Assistance process
  • Gather required student documentation and upload records into Populi
  • Provide responsive, student-centered customer service and support
  • Assist with monthly Open Houses and occasional outreach events at military installations or community events
  • Collaborate across departments to ensure accurate student information and timely reporting Qualifications
  • Associate degree required
  • 3+ years of professional experience required
  • Knowledge of VA education benefits and certification processes preferred
  • Military background preferred; equivalent SCO experience may substitute
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Comfortable managing recurring deadlines and compliance-driven workflows
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, Teams, Adobe and related administrative systems
  • Experience with Populi, Enrollment Manager, Tungsten, or similar systems preferred
  • Willingness to travel locally as needed Compensation & Work Structure
  • Hourly range: $27
  • 30/hour, depending on experience
