Under the general direction of the Superintendent, the Principal plans, organizes, administers, and directs educational programs and operations at an elementary school. The Principal is responsible for actively promoting positive relationships and culture between the school and the community, as well as supervising and evaluating staff members, including teachers and support staff. DEGREE OF SUPERVISION
Supervises all certificated and classified personnel staff at the school site; Reports to the Superintendent. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Direct school affairs in a manner consistent with Board policies, administrative rules and regulations as established by the Superintendent, and any further rules and regulations considered necessary for the proper function of the school; Establish a climate and culture of respect, honesty, trust, and nurturing for students and staff; Develop/implement a high-quality character program to reinforce desirable qualities among students; Stays current on educational trends and best practices in order to ensure students have opportunities to be competitive, successful, and prepared as they transition to middle school; Develop and coordinate the curriculum of the school and all courses of study used in the various instructional fields in accordance with District policies; Supervise the selection and use of instructional supplies and equipment, and other varied types of instructional materials, including textbooks and supplementary books; Supervise and upgrade classroom instructional methods and processes in all fields, including special classes for exceptional children assigned to the school; Supervise classroom testing and other appraisal of pupil accomplishment in the individual school; Organize, provide general direction, and coordinate all phases of the educational program of the school in accordance with District policies; Supervise teachers' professional growth in coordination with the Educational Services Department; Supervise the operation of the school's buildings and grounds, supervise and coordinate the use of the school plant in coordination with the Business Services Department; Administer the school budget; M. Develop and direct the school's program of community relations; Evaluate the work of all personnel in the school and make recommendations for the continued employment, reassignment, or separation with direction from the Personnel Services Department; Prepare an annual report and/or periodic reports, as may be required on the work of the school; Supervise and coordinate the work of attached personnel as shown in the District Organizational Chart; Administer the Collective Bargaining Agreements at the school; Perform other services as directed by the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents QUALIFICATIONS
1. Education and Experience A. Possession and maintenance of a valid California administrative credential authorizing service as an administrator; B. Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher learning; preferably in administration or a closely related field; C. A minimum of four years of successful classroom teaching experience (at the elementary level is desirable) D. Experience as a school principal is desirable; E. Bilingual/bicultural (Spanish/Mandarin/Cantonese is desirable) 2. Other requirements A. Possession of a valid California Driver's License; B. Tuberculosis screening and clearance every four years.
