The Director ensures that students with disabilities receive high‑quality, legally compliant services across multiple instructional models. This role collaborates closely with Desert Mountain Charter SELPA, manages all special education staff, and ensures alignment with IDEA, California Education Code, Section 504, and charter‑school requirements. Program Leadership Provides vision and direction for special education across all learning environments, including Online, Independent Study, and Homeschool programs. Ensures consistent service delivery and compliance across virtual, hybrid, and in‑person instructional models. Develops systems that support multi‑platform service delivery aligned with Taylion's independent‑study and Homeschool structures. Department Oversight & Staff Supervision Supervises special education teachers, case managers, paraprofessionals, and related service providers. Provides coaching, evaluations, and professional development. Ensures staff are trained in compliance, virtual instruction, and Homeschool expectations. Manages caseloads and staffing across site‑based and online programs. Compliance & Legal Accountability Ensures full compliance with IDEA, Section 504, California Education Code, SELPA procedures, and charter requirements. Oversees IEP timelines, assessments, service minutes, and documentation across all platforms. Conducts internal audits of IEPs, service logs, and student files. Prepares for state audits, charter oversight reviews, and SELPA monitoring Ensures accurate CALPADS reporting. IEP Process Leadership Chairs complex or legally sensitive IEP meetings. Supports staff in writing compliant, measurable goals and service plans. Oversees assessments, triennials, initials, and amendments. Ensures IEPs reflect appropriate services for Online, Independent Study, and Homeschool students. Collaboration With Desert Mountain Charter SELPA Serves as the primary liaison to Desert Mountain Charter SELPA. Coordinates SELPA‑provided services and attends SELPA leadership meetings. Implements SELPA guidance and collaborates on dispute resolution, corrective action plans, and compliance initiatives. Family Engagement & Relationship Building Builds strong relationships with families across all programs, including Homeschool. Provides guidance on rights, services, and virtual learning expectations. Supports families navigating online platforms and independent‑study structures. Communicates proactively to prevent misunderstandings or disputes. Mediation & Conflict Resolution Responds to parent concerns and resolves issues early. Participates in informal dispute resolution, facilitated IEPs, and mediation. Collaborates with SELPA and legal counsel on due process matters. Ensures documentation is thorough and legally defensible. Instructional & Service Delivery Oversight Ensures high‑quality specialized academic instruction across all settings. Oversees related services delivered both in person and virtually. Supports teachers in differentiation, accommodations, and modifications for Online, Independent Study, and Homeschool programs. Monitors student progress and intervenes when needed. Collaboration With Counseling & SST Teams Works closely with the counseling team to support special education referrals and the SST process. Reviews data, supports intervention planning, and ensures appropriate next steps when students may require evaluation or additional supports. Data, Reporting & Accountability Oversees progress‑monitoring systems and ensures timely reporting. Analyzes student performance data across all programs. Tracks service delivery, assessments, and compliance metrics. Prepares reports for leadership, SELPA, and oversight bodies. Cross‑Department Collaboration Collaborates with general education, counseling, administration, and instructional leadership. Supports transitions between general education and special education. Ensures alignment between Homeschool and Independent Study structures. Participates in schoolwide initiatives and student support systems. Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Deep understanding of IDEA, Section 504, California Education Code, SELPA procedures, and charter regulations. Strong leadership and coaching abilities. Skilled in mediation and conflict resolution. Knowledge of virtual instruction and multi‑platform service delivery. Strong organizational and data‑analysis skills. Minimum Qualifications Valid California Education Specialist Credential or PPS Credential. Administrative Services Credential (required or in progress). At least five years of special education experience; leadership experience preferred. Experience with SELPA collaboration and multi‑platform service delivery. Experience with Online, Independent Study, and Homeschool programs strongly preferred.
