Job Description

Banning Lewis Preparatory Academy is a tuition-free public charter school authorized by District 49, proudly serving the Banning Lewis Ranch community and surrounding neighborhoods in north eastern Colorado Springs since 2006. Our mission is to create a safe, supportive environment where students thrive academically and develop the skills, character, and mindset to engage with the world. We are a 6-12 school serving about 1,000 students and part of a unified K-12 system with Banning Lewis Ranch Academy. Our school community values relationships first, high expectations for all learners, and developing citizens of character. Position Overview The K-12 Director of Special Education strengthens inclusive, data-driven student services by ensuring effective, compliant, and high-quality special education systems across schools. This role partners with school leaders, educators, and families to: Ensure compliance and fidelity within IEP and evaluation systems Strengthen
MTSS/RTI
frameworks and inclusive practices Promote trauma-informed and SEL-aligned systems The position focuses on case management systems, compliance oversight, team support, and capacity-building, ensuring that educators can focus on delivering effective academic, behavioral, and social-emotional services to students with disabilities. IEP Process Oversight & Compliance Monitor evaluation and IEP timelines to ensure compliance Oversee development of compliant documentation, notices, and meeting processes Ensure accurate and complete student records aligned to federal and state requirements Support smooth and efficient evaluation and IEP workflows Collaboration & Communication Partner with school leaders, case managers, and multidisciplinary teams Support family communication and ensure accessible, inclusive processes Coordinate interpretation and translation services as needed Facilitate clear, consistent communication across teams Data Systems & Documentation Oversee service logs, progress monitoring, and compliance data systems Ensure accuracy and timeliness of documentation Support audit readiness and internal monitoring processes Generate reports to guide compliance and student service delivery Capacity Building & Staff Support Mentor and support special education teachers and case managers Provide training on compliance systems, documentation, and best practices Support onboarding of new staff through tools, templates, and guidance Promote efficient workflows that reduce administrative burden Operational & Systems Support Improve systems for scheduling, documentation, and compliance tracking Coordinate with departments (transportation, nursing, etc.) to meet student needs Contribute to multidisciplinary teams within scope of role Qualifications Education & Licensure Valid Colorado teaching license with Special Education endorsement Experience Minimum of 5 years of experience as a special education case manager Experience in school-based systems and compliance processes Experience supporting or leading special education teams preferred Knowledge & Skills Strong knowledge of
IDEA, IEP
compliance, and special education systems Excellent organizational, communication, and time-management skills Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism Work Environment School-based office environment with frequent computer use Movement between classrooms and meeting spaces Fast-paced, detail-oriented work environment Reasonable accommodations available Compensation and Benefits We offer a competitive compensation package, which includes group insurance (health, dental, and vision), paid sick leave and personal leave, and participation in the Colorado Public Employees' Retirement Association (PERA) as our retirement plan.
Pay:
$75,000.00 - $105,000.00 per year
