Job Description
The Elementary Assistant Principal supports the principal in providing instructional and operational leadership to ensure a safe, positive, and high-achieving learning environment aligned with Eaton School District priorities. This position assists with supervision, evaluation, mentoring, and support of licensed and classified staff; coordination of professional development; student behavior and culture systems; and implementation of required assessments and school improvement goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Supports the Principal in leading building-level teaching and learning to improve student achievement and student growth; Helps implement curriculum, instructional practices, and school improvement goals aligned with district priorities and state standards; Monitors student performance using multiple data sources (state, district, and classroom measures) and supports intervention systems; Works directly with students to support academic success, behavior growth, attendance improvement, and positive school engagement; Supports staff through coaching, feedback, evaluation processes, and professional learning aligned with school goals; Assists with hiring, onboarding, supervision, and support of licensed and classified staff; Helps maintain a safe, structured school environment by supporting supervision plans, student discipline systems, and safety procedures; Coordinates and supports student behavior expectations, restorative practices, suspensions/expulsions, and required documentation in accordance with district policy and state law; Assists with building operations, including schedules, supervision assignments, attendance systems, and daily logistics that protect instructional time; Supports co-curricular programming (clubs, activities, assemblies, and other student events) and coordinates facility use as needed; Communicates effectively with students, staff, families, and community members to resolve concerns and build positive relationships; Participates in school events and represents the school in a professional, student-centered manner; Create and sustain a thriving school culture that supports every member of the school, including students, teachers, staff, and families; Lead by example, exhibiting strong ethics and moral leadership, with a relentless focus on excellence; Inspire an unwavering belief that all children can and want to learn; Foster clear expectations for student behavior and support the Principal in managing the student discipline system and restorative practices; Involve students' families and community members in supporting and enhancing the school; Completes other duties as assigned to support the mission and priorities of Eaton School District.MINIMUM EDUCATION OR FORMAL TRAINING
Master's degree in education administration, plus additional coursework required for Colorado principal license.MINIMUM EXPERIENCE
Minimum of three (3) years of experience in teaching, or special services provider (SSP).PREFERRED EDUCATION, FORMAL TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE
Possesses or is working toward a Master's degree in Education Leadership or a related field; Five or more years of working in diverse classrooms and schools; Proven record leading students and adults to demonstrable student gains and achievement; Experience leading relevant and engaging teacher professional development; Experience developing and maintaining effective, data-driven curriculum; Experience with cognitive coaching practices to yield and support teacher development and growth; Experience fostering a professional learning community that is high functioning and yields strong results; Experience with Restorative Justice Practices and is deeply committed to discipline as a tool for learning; Experience with standards-based/competency-based grading and reporting practices; Commitment to evidence-based practices, continuous improvement, and innovation; Strong communicator with significant experience building strong relationships with students, staff, families, board board members, and other key stakeholders; Team player with a "what-else-can-I-do-to-support-ESD" attitude; Strong work ethic; Prior leadership-type experience in an elementary school setting, demonstrating an understanding of the developmental, instructional, and social-emotional needs of students in grades K-5 preferred; Demonstrated experience working with diverse student populations, including multilingual learners and culturally responsive teaching practices; Demonstrated work experience in supporting and coaching teachers on curriculum, instruction, and assessment strategies; Demonstrated biliteracy in Spanish and English, including the ability to read, write, and communicate professionally in both languages, is preferred.LICENSES & CERTIFICATION
Must hold a valid Colorado Principal License issued by the Colorado Department of Education, or be actively pursuing the licensure and be able to demonstrate progress toward Colorado principal certification through a state-approved program.KNOWLEDGE & OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Understanding of the interconnected responsibilities of leading a K-5 school, including instructional leadership, staff supervision, student discipline, safety planning, and collaboration with families and district leadership; Strong knowledge of curriculum, instruction, assessment, and student data analysis to support school improvement and student growth; Working knowledge of school finance fundamentals, including budgeting, purchasing, and basic accounting practices; Knowledge of special education requirements and the ability to support compliance, collaboration, and student services; Working knowledge of labor relations and the ability to operate within the district's master agreement and expectations; Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to effectively interact with students, staff, families, and the community; Strong interpersonal, customer service, and public relations skills with the ability to build and maintain positive professional relationships; Ability to facilitate meetings, collaborate with teams, and support problem-solving and conflict resolution; Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with individuals from diverse ethnic, cultural, and educational backgrounds; Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines while working with frequent interruptions; Ability to maintain confidentiality, exercise sound judgment, and demonstrate honesty and integrity in all aspects of the position; Ability to effectively use district technology systems for communication, basic word processing, email, data entry, and time/attendance reporting; Ability to follow and promote Board of Education policies, district procedures, and applicable laws and regulations; Commitment to workplace safety, including following safety procedures, using appropriate equipment, and reporting unsafe conditions; Ability to remain current with district policies, training requirements, and expectations related to data quality, data privacy, and cybersecurity.Please submit application at:
