About Us Athenian Academy Charter School is a K-8 public charter school authorized by the Pinellas County School Board. Established in 2000, we have spent more than two decades building a school community that is truly one of a kind — and we are seeking a passionate, dedicated leader to join our team and grow with us. Position Summary The Principal shall devote full time, skill, labor, and attention to the operation of Athenian Academy Charter School. The Principal shall have responsibility for all campus personnel matters, including the selection, assignment, transfer, and termination of all personnel, with Board approval. The Board will serve in an advisory role on those matters. Principal Duties The Principal's duties shall include, but are not limited to, the following: Instructional Leadership Provide instructional leadership to Athenian Academy Charter School, achieving targeted school performance on Florida state assessments (FSA/FAST). Provide assistance and coordination in the implementation of curriculum aligned to Florida's B.E.S.T. Standards. Coordinate the administration of all state standardized testing requirements. Ensure accurate and timely student information system (SIS) data entry and reporting. Attend IEP meetings as required by law and oversee compliance with all special education obligations. Personnel & Staff Management Supervise all employees of the Athenian Academy Charter School campus. Provide performance evaluations of all Athenian Academy Charter School employees at least once annually. Lead staff selection, assignment, transfer, and termination processes in partnership with the Board and Choice Charter Schools. Foster a positive, collaborative school culture where educators are supported and empowered to do their best work. Enrollment & Community Engagement Actively pursue student enrollment to sustain a strong operating budget, meeting or exceeding targeted enrollment goals. Oversee parent, student, and teacher relations to maintain a welcoming, inclusive school community. Facilitate open house events and community outreach activities to attract and retain families. Establish a communication model that facilitates effective communication among all groups within Athenian Academy Charter School, between the school and the State, and between the school and the broader community. Foster and maintain an amicable, collaborative relationship with the school's authorizer. Governance, Compliance & Reporting Attend all Board of Directors meetings and State Board meetings as necessary. Work with the Executive Director to make written recommendations to the Board on programs, policies, budget, and other school matters as they relate to the campus. Provide comments and recommendations regarding policies presented by others to the Board. Stay abreast of all applicable school laws, regulations, and state policy changes. Provide all required reporting to state and federal agencies in a timely fashion. Provide all legally required financial reports to the State. Develop the Athenian Academy Charter School annual performance report. Participate in the dispute resolution procedure and complaint procedure when necessary. Financial Oversight Develop and administer the school's budget as approved by the Board, in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles. Present quarterly financial reports to the Board of Directors. Attend periodic meetings with the back-office business services provider and the State Board on fiscal oversight issues, upon request. Write applications for grants and other supplemental funding opportunities. Operations & Safety Oversee student disciplinary matters in compliance with school policy and Florida law. Ensure campus safety and maintain a safe, orderly environment for all students and staff. Perform any other duties as assigned by the Board of Directors. Required Qualifications Valid Florida Educational Leadership (Principal) Certificate or eligibility to obtain, pursuant to § 1012.56, Florida Statutes.. Demonstrated record of improving student academic outcomes on Florida state assessments. Strong knowledge of Florida's charter school statutory requirements under § 1002.33, Florida Statutes. Experience managing school budgets and fiscal reporting in compliance with Florida law and generally accepted accounting principles. Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain high-quality instructional and support staff. Strong data literacy with the ability to use SIS systems, assessment data, and performance metrics to drive school-wide improvement. Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with staff, families, the Board, and community stakeholders. Satisfactory Level 2 background check clearance as required by Florida law. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Education, or a related field preferred. Prior Florida charter school leadership experience. Experience opening or launching a new school or campus. Demonstrated success growing student enrollment and executing community marketing strategies. Experience with grant writing and supplemental funding applications. Familiarity with Florida's FEFP funding structure, FTE reporting, and DOE compliance requirements. Experience working collaboratively with a governing Board of Directors.
