Job Description

Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and motivated Interim Assistant Athletic Director to join our vibrant athletic department. In this pivotal role, you will support the strategic management and operational oversight of our athletic programs, ensuring excellence in student-athlete experience, compliance, and organizational effectiveness. The Interim Middle School Assistant Athletic Director is vital in providing students with opportunities for physical activity, skill development, and teamwork while emphasizing safety and sportsmanship. They must have strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills to excel in this role. In addition to regular coaching, they oversee the Athletic program at The Epstein School.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Program Planning and Development:
Develop, implement, and oversee the middle school's athletic program in alignment with school's policies and culture. Create a comprehensive sports schedule, including practice and game dates and location. Identify opportunities to expand or improve the athletic program.
Coach Recruitment and Supervision:
Recruit, hire, and evaluate coaches for various sports teams. Provide guidance, support, and professional development opportunities for coaches. Ensure coaches adhere to safety guidelines, coaching standards, and ethical principles.
Facility and Equipment Management:
Oversee the maintenance and scheduling of athletic facilities. Coordinate equipment purchases, storage, and distribution. Ensure that facilities and equipment meet safety standards.
Budget Management:
Monitor expenses, revenue, and financial reports.
Compliance and Eligibility:
Ensure compliance with league regulations. Partner with the Middle School Principal to verify student-athlete eligibility and manage necessary paperwork.
Scheduling and Transportation:
Create and maintain a master schedule of athletic events. Partner with parents to ensure transportation for players to away games and events. Co Coordinate with other schools and leagues for scheduling purposes.
Communication and Promotion:
Foster positive communication with athletes, parents, coaches, and school staff. Promote athletic events and achievements within the school and community. Maintain an up-to-date website or social media presence for the athletic department. (Optional) Attends games and athletic functions (practices) as a representative of The Epstein School.
Safety and Emergency Response:
Develop and implement safety protocols for athletic practices and events. Coordinate emergency response plans and communicate them to coaches and staff. Ensure access to medical personnel and first aid supplies during practices and games. Collaborates with the Business and Facilities departments to ensure compliance with applicable liability regulations and insurance risks for the School.
Student-Athlete Welfare:
Promote sportsmanship, character development, and a positive team culture among student-athletes. Partner with the coaches to monitor academic progress and advocate for student-athletes' academic success. Address issues related to student-athlete well-being and discipline.
Record Keeping and Reportin g:
Maintain accurate records of team rosters, game results, and statistics. Submit required reports and documentation to relevant governing bodies. Keep historical records of athletic achievements.
Professional Development:
Stay informed about trends, best practices, and changes in the field of school athletics. Attend conferences, workshops, and training sessions to enhance knowledge and skills.
Sports Event Management:
Coordinate logistics for home and away games, including officials and concessions. Ensure a smooth flow of events and address any issues during competitions.
Parent and Community Engagement:
Foster positive relationships with parents and community members. Encourage parental involvement and support for the athletic program. Maintains excellent working relationships with athletic booster groups; when necessary, helps with the creation of new or additional support groups for specific teams and events. Compliance with

Ensure that the athletic program complies with Title IX regulations, promoting gender equity in sports. Other Duties as

Demonstrates strong verbal and written communication abilities Seeks to improve through self-reflection, constructive feedback and/or professional development activities. Maintain a positive and collaborative climate across departments and grade levels. Familiarity with TeamSnap, Microsoft Office as well as other relevant educational platforms
Education & Other Requirements:
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field
Experience:
Five or more years' experience as a coach in an academic setting. (Director-level experience in an academic or related role preferred but not required).
Physical Requirements:
The employee must be able to do the following: Be able to walk, and stand for extended length of time; Use hands and fingers to reach, grab, write, handle, feel & control objects; must be able to see, talk and hear; must be able to bend at the trunk, squat, stoop, kneel, and reach; must be able to traverse various athletic grounds and facilities; must be able to lift and/or move up to 30 pounds; must be able to see objects at a distance; must be able to sit and work at a computer for prolonged periods of time; must be able to lightly clean and maintain equipment; must be able to work in a busy and occasionally noisy environment.
