Purpose :
The Director of Education is responsible for oversight of the day to day operations of Price Academy and the overall education needs of residents. For a full job description and to submit your application; please visit our website at www.themethodisthome.org Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following : Communicate and collaborate effectively with community schools to insure quality education opportunities to the residents of the Macon Campus. Remains informed of trends, research and legislation that may impact the educational environment and the education of residents. Develop and track benchmarks for measuring success of the educational opportunities at The Methodist Home. Participate in special education-related activities, such as attending meetings, development of Individual Education Plans, etc. Develop and implement school improvement plans and accreditations as needed. Oversees and coordinates the enrollment and disenrollment of all Methodist Home residents in their respective schools. Coordinates and oversees summer enrichment activities for the students at Price Academy as well as the residents on the Macon Campus. Evaluate curricula, teaching methods, and programs to determine their effectiveness, efficiency, and use, and to ensure that school activities comply with federal, state, and local regulations as well as accrediting institutions. Working knowledge if Imagine Learning Edgenuity (LMS). Ability to read and analyze high school transcripts, along with a clear understanding of graduation requirements aligned to the Georgia Department of Education, to ensure accurate student placement. Experience with student information systems, specifically Infinite Campus. Maintain a comprehensive set of educational records on all students at Price Academy. Capacity to supervise and support waiver teachers, including ensuring appropriate training and compliance. Provide classroom instruction if needed. Devise a school schedule that maximizes instruction time provided to students. Select, recruit and supervise teachers as well as education secretary. Observe teaching methods and examine learning materials to evaluate and standardize curricula and teaching techniques, and to determine areas where improvement is needed. Collaborate with teachers to develop and maintain curriculum standards, and set performance goals and objectives. Plan and lead professional development activities for teachers, administrators, and support staff.

Counsel and provide guidance to students regarding personal, academic, vocational, or behavioral issues. Partners with applicable cottages to select and orient paraprofessionals. Develop, implement and monitor an annual budget. Collaborate with the Vice President of Facilities' to insure the upkeep of Price Academy. Maintains a safe and healthy work environment.

Role model and mentor for staff as indicated by: Take initiative to implement good practice and meet licensing and accreditation standards. Interact professionally and cooperatively with other parts of the agency. (i.e. Human Resources, Finance, etc.) Complete assignments in a timely and accurate manner. Is willing to take on additional responsibility in a positive manner. Complete training necessary to perform position consistent with program and agency staff development plans as indicated by: Identifies training appropriate to this position. Takes responsibility for scheduling and attending appropriate training. Uphold the mission and values of The Methodist Home. Education and/or Work Experience Requirements include but are not limited to the following: Master's Degree in Education Administration or Educational Leadership preferred. Bachelor's Degree in Education with 5 years' experience in school leadership. A middle and/or high school special education teaching certification. Knowledge of principles and methods for evaluating curriculum, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups. Must have valid teaching certificate. Ability to appropriately handle confidential information. Must have a valid Driver's License with minimum of four-year driving history and the ability to meet and remain in good standing in accordance with Agency insurance guidelines. Ability to understand and consistently implement policies and procedures of the Agency. Ability to interact and work cooperatively and effectively with other personnel and residents. Ability to show sensitivity and responsiveness to cultural difference in the service population.
Essential Physical Requirements:
Duties are performed in a variety of environments ranging from highly stressful and to calm and leisurely. Ability to successfully complete the Crisis Aggression Limitation Management training program and conduct physical interventions as taught by the instructor. Examples (1) Escorting a child by the arm to de-escalate; (2) Support a child's movement to a seated position to the floor or to a chair; (3) Support a child in a physical intervention to the floor, on your knees and for lengthy periods of time; (4) Ability to securely and safely maintain a child in a physical intervention for extended periods of time. Ability to assist/support/transport youth ranging in weight from 50 to 150 pounds. Ability to lift/move up to 10 pounds without assistance. Ability to lift/move up to 100 pounds, with/without assistance, in order to perform CALM physical intervention techniques. Duties may include pushing, pulling, lifting, and carrying, stooping, bending and/or prolonged standing. Specific vision abilities include the ability to see for purposes of reading printed material as well as distance vision for purposes of maintaining appropriate supervision. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels. Ability to speak clearly so others can understand you. Duties may include repetitive hand motions such as typing.
