School Year Qualifications:
Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a General Administrative Endorsement (no longer issues after 8-31-14) or a Principal endorsement; Reports to:
Principal, Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents Work Calendar:
Full-Time, 200 work days, plus other flexible hours as necessary to fulfill the requirements of the position
Position Goal:
Assist the principal in providing excellence in education through leadership, supervision, and administrative skills to promote a high quality, comprehensive learning environment for the educational, social and emotional development of each student The Assistant Principal shall be responsible for the following duties and perform other duties that may be assigned by the building principal or
Superintendent/Assistant Superintendents:
Superintendent/Board:
Observe, implement and adhere to all Board of Education policies and regulations, and all administrative rules and procedures Attend Board meetings when necessary to provide supportive materials and information Follow all State of Illinois codes relative to the educational process Communicate building initiatives, objectives and programs to the Board, Administration, Staff and Community Provide information to the Superintendent/Principal on all relative school activities, issues and concerns as necessary
District-wide:
Fulfill duties as program coordinator of assigned District-wide programs
Building:
Assume administrative and all other responsibilities in the absence of the building principal Assist the principal in establishing and maintaining an effective learning climate Supervise the building lunch program and students Prepare reports and documents as requested by the principal
Instruction:
Provide leadership and supervision for the improvement of instruction Assist in the development, determine appropriateness and monitor the instructional program Assist in the administration of the student testing program Serve on curriculum or study area committees Attend Child Study Teams and Multi-disciplinary Conferences as necessary to meet the needs of students
Personnel:
Evaluate instructional personnel and staff as designated by the building principal Oversee the cafeteria supervisors
Activities:
Assist in the supervision of after-school athletic, extra-curricular and intramural programs
Communication:
Assist the principal in the planning and conducting of staff meetings as necessary to delineate information and maintain a high functioning school Maintain open communication and active relationships with students and parents Respond to written and oral requests for information from the principal Establish and maintain favorable relationships with local community groups and individuals to foster understanding and solicit support for school objectives and programs Foster positive relationships with local community groups, individuals, teacher associations, parents and students to discuss and resolve issues, concerns or problems that may require interpretation of Board policy or administrative directives
Students:
Assist the principal in maintaining high standards of student conduct and enforce discipline as necessary following due process for the rights of students Establish rules, regulations, procedures and protocols for proper student conduct and maintaining student discipline Assist the principal in implementing the discipline program for improving student behavior conducive to an appropriate teaching-learning environment
Facilities:
Assist the principal in the supervision of daily use of the school facilities for both academic and non-academic purposes Assist in implementing the school safety plan
Individual:
Develop positive working relationships with staff that promotes an encouraging, supportive learning environment in the classroom and increase teacher motivation Assume responsibility for personal professional growth and development by attending necessary professional development seminars, conferences, meetings and continuing education Remain current on effective teaching practices, techniques and learning strategies, literature, new research findings, technology and data collection Assume responsibility for memberships and participation in local, state and national professional organizations and meetings
