Job Description

Adlai E Stevenson High School 1251 Stevenson DriveLicolnshire, IL 60069 Volunteer Adlai E Stevenson High School 125 Posted 3/30/2026 The Stevenson Foundation is an independent nonprofit organization that empowers students to achieve their brightest futures. Foundation programs ensure that all Stevenson students have access to resources they need to foster well-being and long-term success. Our Stevenson to College, or S2C, program, is designed to guide first-generation, low-income students in their journeys to college and through graduation. In addition to monthly workshops, college application support, and an engaged S2C community, the program pairs each student with a volunteer mentor. S2C mentors serve as trusted adults and accountability partners to young people who are eager to earn a college degree, but don't have the information and resources to make that dream a reality. To ensure student safety and create a meaningful mentor/student pairing, all interested volunteers are required to submit an application, speak with one or more current mentors, and undergo a background check in accordance with District 125 and Stevenson Foundation guidelines. S2C mentors receive ongoing guidance from program staff and leaders. Equipped with the necessary information, mentor responsibilities include: Supporting students in preparing for and navigating all parts of the college search, application, and selection process Helping students create actionable plans to achieve short- and long-term academic, career, and personal goals, exploring obstacles and viable solutions along the way Guiding students in navigating the transition from high school to college, including course selection, campus resources, and time management strategies fostering a supportive environment where students feel heard, valued, and connected to our S2C community Modeling and encouraging positive, professional behaviors such as timely and open communication, punctuality, consistency, resiliency, self-advocacy, problem solving, and open mindedness Celebrating milestones and acknowledging student progress to reinforce motivation Maintaining appropriate boundaries, professionalism, and confidentiality with all scholars, families, and fellow mentors
Application Procedure:
All interested volunteers must have a four-year college degree.
