Job Description

Position Summary:
Goshen College invites applicants for the position of Success Coach, Programming and Belonging. The Success Coach, Programming and Belonging is a member of the Academic Success Center team, with a mission to support student success and achievement. This position carries a full caseload of students across all years while playing a central role in the design and delivery of ASC programming and student belonging initiatives. This coach supports orientation, transition, and retention efforts for a diverse student body. The successful candidate will be creative, organized, and deeply committed to building welcoming, inclusive pathways for all students. The position is a 10-month contract (.83 FTE) that pays $40,000 per year. This is an on-site position that requires your presence on campus.
Essential Functions:
(Core Job Responsibilities) Serves as the primary point of contact for students, utilizing a holistic coaching approach to support an assigned caseload Provides comprehensive, holistic support to a caseload of students by facilitating personal, academic, and professional goal setting; crafting individualized student success plans. Conducts personalized outreach to identify academic and socio-emotional challenges early and connect students to appropriate support. Recommends opportunities for personal and academic growth, as well as co-curricular activities that align with individual interests. Maintains an in-depth understanding of college policies and procedures, disseminating information to students. Encourages participation in high-impact activities and known initiatives that support student persistence. Emphasizes confidentiality, university policy compliance, and a culture of care within all direct student interactions. Designs and delivers ASC programming and student engagement initiatives Co-develops, coordinates, and facilitates workshops, events, and programming for students on topics including study strategies, persistence, academic recovery, stress management, and campus engagement. Collaborates with ASC leadership to co-develop programming that is cohesive, evidence-based, and aligned with student success goals. Develops and maintains programming materials, facilitation guides, and assessment tools to support continuous improvement. Supports the Office of Orientation, Transition, and Retention (OTR) Supports onboarding strategies for diverse student populations, with particular attention to first-generation, underserved, and multilingual students and their families. Develops and delivers orientation programming that helps students and families understand college expectations, financial wellness, and academic policies; bilingual delivery preferred. Provides training and ongoing support for orientation leaders. Provides general support to the Academic Success Center Assists with front desk coverage and test proctoring. Participates in campus initiatives such as affinity groups, first-generation, or 21st-century scholar programming.
Education and Experience:
A bachelor's degree in education, social work, communications, or a related field is required. Experience designing and facilitating programming, workshops, or events in a higher education or student services context. Prior experience working with college students in a coaching, advising, or student affairs capacity preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
Required:
Demonstrated creativity and organizational skill in designing and delivering engaging student programming. Demonstrated ability to build strong, relational connections with students that center trust, care, and student agency. Strong intercultural competency and experience working with diverse student populations, including first-generation and underserved students. Effective communication and organizational skills Willingness to learn new things and desire to problem-solve and find solutions. Strong time management and prioritization skills, balancing caseload and programmatic responsibilities efficiently. Ability to maintain confidentiality. Proficiency with Google Workspace and Excel spreadsheets.
Preferred:
Bilingual in Spanish and English. Knowledge of advising techniques and academic curriculum.
Special Requirements:
Occasional evening or weekend hours may be needed for orientation events, admissions events, programming events, and other activities.
Physical Demands:
Ability to lift light loads (up to 25 pounds). Prolonged sitting and use of keyboard. Ability to complete primary tasks by viewing computer screen(s) for the majority of any given workday (extensive use of computer technology). Considerable phone use and operation of copier and other standard office equipment.
Work Environment/Environmental Conditions:
Work will primarily take place in a standard indoor office environment. Candidates must be committed to the community standards, mission, and core values of Goshen College.
