(SB-SHSC-IUSBA) Job Summary The Director of Student Services plays a crucial role in fostering a supportive and enriching academic environment for students pursuing degrees in both Health Sciences and Education. This key leadership position provides guidance and direction by coordinating and overseeing student services, including admissions, student engagement, advising, compliance, and data analysis, ensuring student success and retention. Department-Specific Responsibilities Performs audits and prepares reports on degree progress, graduation eligibility, and collaborates with school leaders on degree conferral Performs maintenance of Stellic (building pathways, audit accuracy, generating reports, etc.) Processes academic renewals Reviews and processes students on Academic Notice and dismissals Reviewes and confirms course verifications Oversees the creation of academic documents (e.g., certifications of enrollment) and perform audits on degree progress and graduation eligibility Serves as liaison to the Undergraduate Advising Center Collaborates with advisors and school leadership to serve as a resource for matters such as course offerings, grade policies, transcripts, student verification of enrollment, transfer credits, and other related services Collaborates with Program Directors to support application, admissions, retention, and graduation processes specific to each program. Responsible for wide-spread student communication (AdRx, website updates, Daily Titan posts, etc.) regarding application for all programs in the Dwyer School of Health Sciences Monitors student progress and refer to campus offices as necessary to address academic challenges and barriers to completion Maintains detailed knowledge of academic policies as dictated in the academic bulletin and program handbooks Serves as a resource for matters such as course offerings, grade policies, transcripts, and transfer credits. Serves as liaison to the IU Graduate School and other university partners to ensure compliance and support for graduate education policies for the School of Education. Facilitates student complaints, appeals, and grievance processes (e.g., probation and dismissal, late withdrawals, program application denials), in collaboration with School Leadership. Administers school-level scholarships and scholarship reporting processes as dictated by donor intent Serves as the direct supervisor for the role of the School Recorder(s) In collaboration with the School Recorder and Program Directors, oversees all aspects of student compliance including, but not limited to PIC background checks, Certificate of Insurance, and clinical compliance software (Castlebranch, etc.). Collaborate with the Administrative Coordinator and the Director of Academics on the alignment of student compliance with Affiliation Agreements as needed Provides leadership in the development, coordination, and continuous improvement of recruitment and retention plans across the College Collaborates with School Leaders, Program Directors, Chairs, advisors, and campus partners to establish goals, support implementation efforts, and ensure alignment with institutional priorities Uses enrollment, retention, progression, and completion data to forecast trends, identify challenges, and recommend strategic interventions Oversees communication strategies related to program applications and student engagement while ensuring consistent and accurate messaging across platforms (e.g., websites, student portals) Monitors student success indicators at the program level and inform proactive referral processes and campus support partnerships Guides policy and process improvements that advance student persistence and support a culture of student success Collects, analyzes, and reports data related to student outcomes, retention rates, and satisfaction levels for reports for each program, campus, IU, state, federal, and/or other partners Generates reports and data analyses related to student enrollment, course offerings, and other relevant metrics to inform advising strategies and program improvements Supports external audits and accreditation reviews by providing accurate and timely documentation Prepares reports and recommendations based on data analysis to inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts Participates in campus-wide student services initiatives and committees as needed Serves as ex-officio for school-level curriculum committees and student affairs committee for both academic schools Assists and participates in campus-related activities (commencement, new student orientations, convocation, etc.) General Responsibilities Provides day-to-day operational management of student support staff Establishes short-term operational objectives Identifies operational issues and/or areas of improvement and implements solutions to improve processes and/or operational efficiency Analyzes, monitors, and evaluates performance of assigned staff; establishes work priorities, conducts performance reviews, and provides corrective action as needed Ensures adequate staffing and effective scheduling; participates and informs employment decisions for assigned staff Provides direct supervision and oversight of assigned staff and activities; impacts, and is held accountable for, the performance of team and/or assigned staff Ensures and provides training to assigned staff to improve student support operations; researches and identifies development opportunities for assigned staff Researches and stays up-to-date on new industry standards, best practices, and emerging technology; keeps next-level leader(s) informed of trends as well as significant problems QualificationsEDUCATION
Required Bachelor's degree in social work, law, or related field Preferred Master's degree in student affairs, counseling, social work, education, business, health sciences or a related field from an accredited institutionWORK EXPERIENCE
Required 2 years in student support, higher education student affairs, or related field Preferred 5 years of experience in higher education administration, preferably in student advising, enrollment services, or graduate student support Demonstrated experience developing and implementing student engagement initiatives and retention strategies SKILLS Required Proficient written and verbal communication skills Maintains a high degree of professionalism Demonstrated time management and priority-setting skills Demonstrates a high commitment to quality Excellent organizational skills Excellent collaboration and team-building skills Effectively coaches and delivers constructive feedback Instills commitment to organizational goals Demonstrated ability to maintain confidential information Demonstrated customer service skills Knowledge of student development, counseling, or career development theories and practices Ability to develop accurate reports, correspondence and prepare and deliver presentations Ability to build strong partnerships with students and other university departments Preferred Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders Have a high degree of professionalism and commitment to quality Familiarity with education structures of accredited academic programs Knowledge of student information systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Slate, AdRx, Navigate, Stellic) and data analysis tools Working Conditions / Demands This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation. Work Location IU South Bend Campus South Bend, Indiana Advertised Salary $60,000 - $62,000 annually Work Hours Occasional evening or weekend hours may be required to support special events or accommodate student needs.
