Job Qualifications:
Director of Special Education Certification
Specific Duties:
1. Responsible for writing proposals (federal and/or state grants) and making necessary efforts to secure additional programs and funds, which will enhance the special education program. 2. Responsible for identification of children needing services (Child Find). 3. Maintain a department budget. 4. Secure and order educational materials. 5. Present programs to the community concerning the special education program. 6. Attend workshops, meetings, and programs relating to special education. 7. Act as coordinator between parents, staff, and agencies concerning the students. 8. Evaluate the programs periodically. 9. Serve as confidentiality contact for the school district. 10. Maintain tracking system on students in special programs. 11. Responsible for keeping up to date on special education laws and reporting those to appropriate staff. 12. Coordinate and monitor any Medicaid service provided for students. 13. Collaborate with the director of finance on Medicaid billing for district performed services. 14. Complete and submit state-mandated reports to KDE and WKEC. 15. Train teachers and staff in state and federal laws, regulations, administrative statutes, and KDE guidance documents. 16. Serve as the Section 504 Coordinator for the district. 17. Implement appropriate training for seclusion and restraint techniques and procedures. 18. Collaborate with school personnel on RTI efforts to provide appropriate documentation. 19. Perform other duties assigned by the superintendent.
