210 QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Hold a valid Kentucky Teaching Certificate. Hold a valid Kentucky Director of Special Education Certificate. Have a minimum of 5 years teaching experience in special education or a related field. Have strong presentation and communication skills. Worked on a successful team.
Preferred:
Teacher or building leadership experience Current or previous trainer in safe physical management
Knowledge Of:
Basic computer skills including use of mouse and keyboard to navigate computer, e-mail, and websites. Knowledge and demonstration of sound instructional practice. Record-keeping techniques.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Summary:
Assists and supports the Director of Special Services in the administration and implementation of the district's instructional program that provides services to students qualifying for exceptional education by providing sustained leadership and technical expertise.
Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities:
Demonstrates comprehensive understanding and ability to apply state and federal laws pertaining to special education in a consistent manner with fidelity and professionalism Supports and leads efforts to implement best practices in developing comprehensive education programs for preschool through 12th grade students who qualify for special education services Understands, communicates, monitors, and facilitates the guidelines and ongoing processes for the Admission and Release Committee (ARC) meetings Assists the Director of Special Services in the administration of Section 504 regulations, requirements, and processes Collaborates effectively with teachers, principals, district leadership, related service providers, parents, and students in developing and supporting effective learning environments for special education students Assists with the ongoing system for tracking information regarding evaluation, placement, and educational progress of special education students Assists with gathering data, assimilating information, reviewing records, and other processes related to local, state, and federal reporting requirements related to special education services Maintains confidentiality of student information and educational records Assists with the ongoing evaluation and monitoring of programs and services for special education students and making appropriate recommendations to impact student progress and overall program effectiveness Maintains an acute awareness of and ability to apply policies, statutes, and regulations on the local, state, and federal levels related to special education services; assists with responding to inquiries and legal challenges related to special education services Assists with the development of and provides staff development and ongoing assistance to teachers, classified personnel, administrators, and others regarding effective strategies, protocols, and program requirements related to special education Assists in coordinating school-based resources and related services for special education students as relevant to Individual Education Program (IEP) services, supports, and accommodations Assists the Director of Special Services in the development and monitoring of federal and state grant budgets and reports related to special education May serve as the chairperson at Admission & Release Committee (ARC) meetings within schools when requested; attends ARC meetings on an ongoing basis as needed Serves as a department contact for Alternate Assessment and oversees the required teacher trainings for the administration of alternate assessments throughout the district collaborating with the District Assessment Coordinator Oversees and evaluates the school based mental health services and therapists available to students with IEPs Assists the Director of Special Services in monitoring district data including suspensions, removals, and restraints and seclusions Coordinates support for students with IEPs from the Board Certified Behavior Analyst and Registered Behavior Technicians in the district Evaluates Board Certified Behavior Analysts and Registered Behavior Technicians Completes other duties as assigned by the Director of Special Education commensurate with the position Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
