Job Description

The Department of Cardiopulmonary Science at LSU Health-New Orleans seeks to graduate a knowledgeable, compassionate, andcritically thinking group of students who will become tomorrow's leaders in health care. We use a combination of time-honored and innovativeteaching methods (including advanced simulation) in a challenging curriculum that promotes understanding rather than rote memorization. Ouruse of a variety of clinical sites ensures that graduates will be comfortable with potential employers of respiratory therapists andcardiovascular sonographers. Job Summary/Basic Functions The incumbent, ideally a visionaryleader, will be responsible for the overall administration of the Department of Cardiopulmonary Science, guiding the department towardachievement of its mission and vision. The department grants a baccalaureate degree in Cardiopulmonary Science, with graduates specializingin either respiratory therapy or cardiovascular sonography. The incumbent will be responsible for the internal coordination of the programwith all departments within the School of Allied Health Professions, and act as the primary representative of the program external to theLSU Health Sciences Center. The incumbent will interact with key administrators of the linkage campuses to carry out the operational needsof the program in cooperation with the advisory boards and supervise the expenditure of all funds for the department. Additionally, thedepartment head will have the primary responsibility for maintenance of accreditation, selection and management of personnel, and leadershipof continuous programmatic and faculty professional development. The incumbent will also serve as a department liaison to the studentsentering the program as well as leading and communicating any changes to admission requirements and the curriculum. The department head willnot serve as a program director for either clinical track, as those positions are currently filled.

Certification and/or license in a health-related profession Number of years required to perform the job: 5 Type of experience required to perform the job: 5 years as a core faculty member in an accredited academic program.

Less than 5 years -administrative experience in a higher education academic program specific to respiratory therapy or cardiovascular sonography.
