Job Description
Middle School Principal Athol-Royalston Regional School District, Athol Massachusetts Job Description Athol-Royalston Regional School District is looking to hire a dynamic and experienced Middle School Principal for the Athol-Royalston Middle School. The school has a student population of approximately 450 students. The building staff of 85 includes core content, special education, and unified arts teachers, interventionists and counseling staff, paraprofessionals, a school nurse, office personnel, and custodial and kitchen staff. The administrative team is comprised of a special education coordinator, two assistant principals, and a principal. Job Details Develop and sustain a positive school culture inclusive of all stakeholder groups, focusing on students and their individual needs. Articulate the school's vision to the students, staff, parents and the community. Model important goals and behaviors in such a way as to signal others of what is valued in the school. Consistently demonstrate a commitment to academic goals for students and for educators.
Create a climate of high expectations in the school characterized by a tone of respect for students, teachers, students, parents, and the community.
Use data based decision making processes to support movement toward the vision.
Maintain a visible presence throughout the school. Visit classrooms daily. Collaborate with district colleagues in scheduled learning walk structures. Interact positively with students and staff in hallways, in classrooms, in the cafeteria and other common areas, and at arrival and dismissal times. Participate in professional development activities with teachers. Use resources to promote the best possible educational opportunities for students. Draft and present school budget to the superintendent yearly after collaborating with teachers and staff and school council on content. Provide materials appropriate to the curriculum that will enhance instruction. Develop and implement a master schedule that adheres to district structures. Plan and communicate benchmark and MCAS assessments. Protect instructional time by maintaining order and discipline, minimizing factors that may disrupt the learning process. Assign staff. Motivate staff through clear expectations, feedback, and encouragement for innovation. Provide professional development opportunities matching staff needs and district strategic plan. Remain current in pedagogical trends and instructional materials and provide resources and support for teachers. Create and submit the School Improvement plan to the school committee for approval. Use the evaluation process to promote professional growth among the teachers, staff, and other building administrators. Work with teachers to use student assessment data to plan daily instruction that will meet individual students' needs. Hire needed personnel. Supervise, provide training, and evaluate according to district policy and collective bargaining agreements. Administer School Committee policy. Ensure proper maintenance of the building through collaborative supervision of custodial staff with Facilities Management. Participate in administrative team initiatives and other district activities. Attend all required district meetings. Hold bi-weekly ILT meetings in the building, creating an agenda that aligns with the district ILT description of purpose. Communicate school matters to the appropriate audiences. Keep the Superintendent informed of all activities within the building that relates to teaching, student learning, parent engagement, and major discipline and or emergency situations. Build a structure of relationships within the school so that all children can learn; use professional knowledge and skills to foster conditions where all children can grow to their full potential. Submit reports to the Superintendent and School Committee as requested. Maintain communication with the community through newsletters, parent conferences, and community activities and events. Involve teachers in data analysis of student assessment data and resulting instructional planning. Plan and facilitate faculty meetings and School Council meetings. Participate in PTG meetings. Resource and service personnel functioning within the school. Any other tasks as assigned by the Superintendent. This is a permanent, 12-month position.
