SUMMARY:
Provide vision and leadership for a public day school serving 115 students in grades 7-12 with significant learning, emotional and behavioral health challenges. Manage all aspects of Northshore Academy in keeping with the Mission of Northshore Education Consortium and all applicable district, state, and federal mandates. This includes oversight of academic, vocational and social-emotional learning curriculum, instruction and assessment, positive behavioral supports and clinical services, employee supervision, budget and operations, compliance with all state and federal special education regulations. Serve as a member of the NEC Leadership Team. Must be committed to agency goals around equity, diversity, and inclusion, trauma-informed learning, and restorative practices for youth with complex behavioral needs.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Promote the learning and growth of all students and the success of all staff by cultivating a shared vision for Northshore Academy.
  • Ensure that all curriculum and instructional practices reflect Massachusetts Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core State Standards, high expectations for students and are personalized and differentiated to accommodate the unique abilities and needs of each student.
  • Develop and execute effective plans, procedures, routines and operational systems for day to day management, safety and security.
  • Assure compliance with all state mandates as well as clinical best practices around student discipline and behavioral support.
  • Develop a budget that supports the vision, mission, and goals of the school, and manage enrollment, staffing, and purchasing accordingly.
  • Assure compliance with all regulations governing public day schools in MA.
  • In collaboration with HR and the Executive Director, and in compliance with the CBA, manage a workforce of educators, clinicians, specialists, and paraprofessionals. Oversee all aspects of employee management including hiring, evaluation, supervision, and professional development.
  • Provide timely and effective supervision and evaluation in alignment with state regulations and contract provisions.
  • Ensure that all educators use a variety of formal and informal methods and assessments to measure student learning, growth, and understanding and make necessary adjustments based on student needs.
  • Ensure that all families feel welcome in the school community and have opportunities for participation.
  • Ensure compliance with all IEP procedures
  • Maintain positive relationships with school district liaisons and other state agency partners.
  • Stay current with federal and state regulations, trends in special education, frameworks for curriculum and assessment, instructional methodology and accommodations, serving as a resource for educators.
  • Participate in collaborative-wide oversight and strategic planning as a member of the NEC leadership team.
  • Model culturally sensitive practice, reflectiveness, excellent communication and problem solving skills, as well as commitment to high standards of excellence.
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE/LICENSURE
  • MA Licensure as Principal or Special Education Administrator
  • Master's degree in Education or Special Education
  • Classroom experience as a Teacher of Students with behavioral health challenges
  • At least five years of supervisory or management experience in a similar setting
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
  • Knowledge of evidence-based practices for teaching students with moderate disabilities and significant behavioral health challenges.
  • Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented organization.
  • Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administrators, staff, parents, and community partners.
  • Excellent oral and written language skills, and ability to use technology for communication.
  • Excellent problem solving skills, including the ability to prioritize, manage multiple competing demands, and delegate effectively.
Salary Range:
$125,000-$140,000
