Job Description

Job Summary KI seeks a dynamic and innovative part time Interim Director for the Religious School, 15 hours/week, who will manage a warm, friendly, and well-respected religious school, as well as coordinate with the greater KI community for holiday events. Preferred candidates will also be available for extra paid hours over the summer and fall to plan high holiday youth services and programs, and to coordinate holiday programs (Sukkot, Purim, Lag Baomer, etc) with the KI staff. Responsibilities Staffing Advertise positions, hire & manage teachers and staff, provide professional development guidance and opportunities, observe and support teachers, manage teacher absences and approve payroll as well as support classroom management and planning. Curriculum Design curriculum overview with input from current teachers and clergy Provide curriculum guidance and support for teachers in its implementation, adjust as needed, add special projects when relevant, facilitate connections between weekday learning and Shabbat services; connect youth service leaders with KIRS teachers as needed. Logistics Develop and maintain yearly calendar, registration materials, class lists, tuition records, weekly newsletter and updates, KIRS budget, arrange orientation gatherings for families and for staff Family Liaison Connect with parents, plan community events, support students having learning/behavioral challenges Collaboration Regularly liaise with the VP of Youth Ed and the Youth Ed committee, including attending monthly committee meetings Collaborate with the Cantor on Friday night and Shabbat morning KIRS Takeovers (4ish a year) Meet regularly with Synagogue Staff Community Take the lead on KIRS communal time, such as tefillah, weekly gatherings, and special holiday events The successful candidate will possess: Significant teaching experience and a background in and knowledge of Judaism and Jewish practice Classroom management skills and experience with accommodating a variety of learning styles Previous leadership experience in a school or camp educational environment Supervisory/management experience Strong communication, problem- solving, organizational and interpersonal skills Creativity and flexibility Ability to understand, develop, and operate within departmental budgets The ability to foster warm and positive relationships with children, teens, and parents Please send resume and cover letter to KIRShiring@congki.org
