DEFINITION
The Educational Team Leader will ensure that special education students are given every opportunity to be educated within the mainstream and adhere to the intent and timelines of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The Team Leader is responsible for maintaining compliance with special education regulations and serves as chair for all TEAM meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS
Certification in Special Education with a Masters in Special Education or in a related field Minimum of 5 years of Special Education classroom experience Massachusetts Licensure in special education, Moderate Disabilities, PreK-8 or other appropriate special education license SEI Endorsement Knowledge and understanding of the team evaluation process and IDEA regulations, philosophy, and timelines
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Massachusetts Licensure as Administrator of Special Education Experience working in an urban public school setting Foreign Language Proficiency
ESSENTIAL DUTIES
Maintain compliance with special education regulations. Monitor IEPs for accuracy and compliance. Complete all files and statistical reports required by the Coordinators of Special Education and or the Director of Special Education. Chair TEAM meetings, write and oversee the development of IEP, send completed IEPs to parents within 45 days of the date that the parent consents to testing, and secure necessary signatures. Must also supply each service provider with a copy of IEP, monitor the IEP for compliance by service providers, explain 3rd party access to parents, and obtain permission for 3rd party access if the parent agrees. Provide consultative services on organizational issues and structures that impact the learning climate of the school. Participate in providing in-service training to professionals, paraprofessionals, and parent groups. Plan for the integration of pupils, when feasible, into the regular academic program. Ensure that equal educational opportunity is provided to all individuals regardless of race, color, sex, gender identity, disability, age, marital status, religion or national origin. Assume responsibility for the coordination of the evaluation team process, i.e., contacting parents, coordination/completion of the evaluation(s), coordinating and collating of overall evaluation data, processing the required forms, scheduling meeting(s), and chairing evaluation TEAM meetings and processing IEP(s) within regulatory timelines Develop and maintain complete and cumulative individual records of special needs children. Arrange IEP review/re-evaluation assessments and meetings to discuss students' progress and write a new or amended IEP. Act as a liaison with community agencies. Ensure Transition Planning for Early Intervention, High School, and Chapter 688 according to timelines and state standards. Plan and oversee SPED departmental meetings in their respective schools. The ETL will work closely with head teachers and case managers to determine the most appropriate classroom placement. The ETL will support case managers as they write and implement IEPs. The ETL will have a strong knowledge of early childhood development and curriculum. Perform any other duties and assume other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Director of Special Education, Superintendent of Schools and Assistant Superintendents. SALARY Salary for this position will be in accordance with the Everett Teachers Association Contract.
