Qualifications:
A Masters degree or higher from an accredited college or university. Valid special education certification for an appropriate field/level. A minimum of three years experience in special education. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Job Goal:
To provide efficient and effective leadership in guiding the evaluation process for children with special needs, and to monitor the implementation of educational plans and serve as a resource for parents and SPED staff.
Responsibilities:
To interpret Chapter 766 regulations to parents, staff and agencies involved. To receive referrals from the Special Education Administrator and to carry through the evaluation process. To arrange and direct all initial evaluation Team meetings pertaining to developing educational plans in accordance with the regulations. To receive the written assessments of other initial evaluation Team members, coordinate the components/assessments and direct the Team meeting. To complete special education assessments for initial referrals and those specifically requested by Sped staff and present the findings at the Team meetings. To develop accurate records of all initial referrals, ie-evaluations and reviews. To meet with parents, as needed, to explain the Team evaluation process and to discuss the recommendations resulting from such an evaluation. To coordinate the scheduling of re-evaluation meetings of each child's educational plan. To act as consultant to school staff with respect to timelines and procedures for Team meetings in accordance with the regulations. To include information and participation of outside agencies (DSS, DYS, DMR, DMH, private mental health agencies, private hospitals) that serve the special education child/parents. To maintain communication with the Special Education Administrator and the principal. To assure the proper completion of mandated paperwork for meetings, assessments, and IEPs.
Evaluation:
Performance will be evaluated by the Special Education Administrator as contractually agreed to with the Superintendent.
