Assistant Director of Student Services
The Hingham Public Schools is seeking an exceptional and dynamic candidate to serve as the Assistant Director of Student Services for the upcoming school year beginning in July 2026. The Assistant Director of Student Services will join a supportive team that places a high priority on putting students first in all decisions, collaboration, creativity, flexibility, and commitment to the goals of the District and to our students, families and staff.

Job Summary
The Assistant Director of Student Services provides instructional leadership for special education staff, assists the Executive Director in meeting of all special education and Civil Rights compliances, assists in the implementation and monitoring of the Special Education strategic improvement plan, independently develops and delivers evidenced-based professional development for K-12 educators and related services staff, is able to gather and synthesize student data across all grade level bands and along with Executive Director of Student Services provides leadership support and educator evaluation for specialized programs to K-12 schools. Supervisory Responsibilties
Building-Based Special Education/Student Services Staff Responsibilities (include but are not limited to):
Oversee instructional practices and programs for school-based special education staff
Assist in the development, training and implementation of the strategies to increase the inclusion of students with disabilities Facilitate Secondary Department Meetings and professional development
Collaborate with building-based secondary Principals, Directors, and other district administrators regarding pre-referral and referral procedures; special education programming; and implementation of legal mandates, compliance, and secondary transition procedures
Attend IEP meetings as needed
Plan and facilitate professional learning for general and special educators
Assist in coordinating aspects of the Special Education Extended Year Programs and supervise ESY staff
Assist in the recruitment, selection, and assignment of all special education personnel
Collaborate with the Student Services administrative team to ensure compliance with regulation/laws and timely response to parents/guardians
Assist the Executive Director in supporting building administrators on student related matters including attendance, disciplinary and case management meetings
Assist in carrying out the District's Equitable Share responsibilities
Assist in data collection and reporting for Circuit Breaker and Tiered Focus Monitoring
Additional duties as may be assigned per the Executive Director
Education and Training
Certification from MA DESE as Special Education Administrator, required
Master's degree or higher with a concentration in Special Education or related field, required
At least 5 years teaching experience as a Special Education teacher, preferred
At least 5 years of administrative and supervisory experience in special education within a public school setting that includes consultation, coaching and modeling of effective, research-based interventions/supports to paraprofessionals, teachers, and school-based administrators, preferred
Full Certification in Wilson and/or Orton Gillingham Rules-Based Reading, preferred
Experience in the instruction, evaluation and interventions for EL students with disabilities, ESL license preferred
Additional Qualifications:
Experience supervising Special Education programs
Ability to work collaboratively as a member of the Office of Student Services Team A proven ability to relate to a variety of constituencies, including but not limited to, administrators, parents, teachers, school committee members, other school staff, human service and governmental agencies
Deep knowledge of Federal and State Special Education Laws
Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
Well-organized and proven ability to collaboratively problem solve at all levels of the organization
Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
Working knowledge of relevant technologies: internet and email systems; word processing, presentation, and spreadsheet software; and educational software
Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Executive Director may find appropriate and acceptable
Terms of Employment
Full time (40 hours/week), 215 days/year position
Salary and fringe benefits are to be established by the Superintendent in accordance with the policies established by the School Committee
