June 16, 2026/ Start Date August 1, 2026 We are seeking a visionary, dynamic Middle School Assistant Principal to join our administrative leadership team. This role focuses on supporting early adolescents through critical developmental years by fostering a positive school culture, supporting instructional excellence, and ensuring student success. The Assistant Principal reports to the Principal and is responsible for instructional leadership, attendance, discipline, athletics, student activities and building operations.
Major Job Responsibilities:
1. Assists the Principal in providing instructional leadership, especially with academic and behavioral MTSS processes. 2. Assists in the supervision of the daily operation of the building, including schedule adjustments, supervision of support staff, and scheduling of facilities. 3. Leads with high expectations for school culture, student support, and communication concerning interventions, and administers discipline in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct. 4. Responsible for teacher and staff evaluations, including working with teachers on developing areas of focus and success criteria, identification of student growth data, conducting observations, providing feedback, reviewing self- reflections, writing final evaluation and conducting evaluation conferences. 5. Supervises the administration of standardized testing, and prepares data to inform building decisions. 6. Oversees and collaborates with other building staff on the creation of the master schedule of classes. 7. Assists the Principal in providing professional learning for faculty and staff. 8. Oversees and manages the transition programs for students entering and exiting middle school. 9. Foster a safe, positive, and inclusive school climate by establishing clear behavior expectations. 10. Lead the implementation and evaluation of school-wide behavioral and academic support systems to ensure student success. 11. Supports curriculum development and improvement by working closely with the Student Learning and Inclusion Department. 12. Prioritizes a culture of unity and well-being in decision-making and understands how to engage all stakeholders in the school community. 13. Serves on various district and building committees and organizations. 14. Embraces change and innovation and is able to envision and actualize learning beyond the traditional walls of the classroom and the school. 15. Supervises and manages the school athletic program, including scheduling of events; employment and supervision of coaches and game workers; publishing schedules; purchasing and inventory of uniforms and equipment; and other related tasks. 16. Coordinate school-wide enrichment activities, assemblies, field trips and pep rallies. 17. Ensures compliance with all district and board procedures and policies, administrative regulations, as well as state and federal educational laws. 18. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
The candidate selected for this assignment will be the one who offers the best combination of qualities in accordance with the following standards and requirements: 1. The minimum level of education is a master's degree. Training should include areas of school administration and supervision. 2. Candidates must possess a school administration certificate in the State of Michigan. 3. A minimum of five years' teaching and/or administrative experience and substantial experience in a variety of leadership roles are required. Administrative experienced preferred. 4. Evidence of the candidate's ability to provide quality leadership must be demonstrated through: a. excellent communication skills in both verbal and written form; b. highly effective relationship-building ability; c. skill and sensitivity in working with all members of the school community; d. ability to plan, organize and execute the full range of administrative tasks associated with the operation of a comprehensive middle school; e. creating a positive, open, enthusiastic and well-organized teaching and learning environment; f. fostering the continued growth of all staff members; g. commitment to community education concepts; and h. clear understanding of the middle school philosophy. 5. Proficiency in technology and software applications, including Microsoft Office, Google Applications, instructional technology, and student data and scheduling systems. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The demands of extended work days (i.e. coverage of building activities and extra-curricular activities) require a high level of physical endurance. This job requires a high level of adaptability, and the ability to handle and balance multiple demands concurrently.
Salary and Benefits :
Appropriate placement on the Middle School Assistant Principal Salary Schedule ($98,369 - $124,551), in accordance with the candidate's training and experience.
