Superintendent Position Summary The K-12 Principal serves as the instructional and operational leader of the district's school, fostering a positive, safe, and student-centered learning environment that promotes academic excellence, equity, and strong community relationships. In a small rural district setting, the Principal provides comprehensive leadership across all grade levels (K-12), overseeing instructional programming, compliance, student services, and staff supervision while maintaining strong visibility and engagement with students daily. The Principal ensures compliance with federal and state regulations, including Title I Schoolwide programming, McKinney-Vento Homeless Education provisions, and Special Education requirements, while leading implementation of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) to promote a positive school climate. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Instructional Leadership Provide visionary leadership to ensure high-quality instruction aligned with state standards. Lead school improvement planning and continuous improvement processes. Monitor student achievement data to inform instructional decisions and interventions. Facilitate professional development aligned with district and school goals. Conduct formal and informal teacher evaluations in accordance with district policy and state law. Support staff growth through coaching, feedback, and mentoring. Student Engagement & Positive Behavioral Supports Maintain a visible presence throughout the school and actively build positive relationships with students across PK-12. Promote a safe, inclusive, and respectful learning environment. Lead and oversee implementation of a Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework. Develop and reinforce clear behavioral expectations and consistent discipline practices. Use restorative practices and proactive interventions to address student behavior. Analyze behavioral data to identify trends and implement supports. Collaborate with counselors, teachers, and families to support students' academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth. Address student discipline matters in a fair, consistent, and developmentally appropriate manner. Title I Schoolwide Program Oversight Serve as the lead administrator for the Title I Schoolwide program. Ensure compliance with federal Title I requirements and reporting. Oversee development, implementation, and evaluation of the Schoolwide Plan. Coordinate supplemental services and interventions for eligible students. Monitor fiscal accountability and allowable use of Title I funds. Engage families in meaningful involvement activities. McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Ensure district compliance with McKinney-Vento requirements. Identify and support students experiencing homelessness. Coordinate services to ensure enrollment, attendance, transportation, and academic access. Collaborate with community agencies to provide wraparound services. Special Education & Student Services Oversee implementation of Special Education services across PK-12. Participate in and/or chair IEP and 504 meetings as appropriate. Ensure compliance with IDEA, Section 504, and state special education regulations. Monitor service delivery, documentation, and timelines. Support inclusive practices and ensure appropriate accommodations and modifications. Collaborate with special education staff, related service providers, and families. Staff Supervision & Scheduling Supervise certified and classified staff, including paraprofessionals and support personnel. Develop and manage schedules for paraprofessionals and other support staff to ensure effective student support. Oversee PK-12 master scheduling in collaboration with staff. Conduct performance evaluations for teachers and support staff. Promote a collaborative and professional school culture. School Operations & Climate Maintain a safe and orderly school environment. Implement student discipline policies consistently and equitably. Oversee daily operations including transportation coordination, facilities usage, and safety procedures. Manage building-level budgets and resource allocation. Coordinate state testing and accountability requirements. Family & Community Engagement Foster positive relationships with families and community stakeholders. Communicate effectively and regularly with parents and the public. Serve as a visible and engaged leader within the community. Support extracurricular activities and student events.
Qualifications Required:
Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration or related field Valid Michigan Principal/Administrator certification or ability to obtain. Minimum 3 years experience in teaching and/or school leadership Knowledge of Title I, McKinney-Vento, IDEA, Section 504, and
PBIS/ MTSS

Preferred:
Experience in a rural or small school setting Experience overseeing federal programs Experience implementing schoolwide PBIS or MTSS frameworks Strong background in instructional leadership and data analysis Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Strong understanding of Michigan PK-12 curriculum and instruction Knowledge of federal and state education laws and compliance requirements Ability to build strong relationships with students and families Ability to manage multiple leadership roles in a small district environment Effective communication and conflict resolution skills Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities Commitment to equity, inclusion, and student-centered leadership Working Conditions Office and school environment with frequent interaction with students, staff, and families Daily visibility and active supervision in classrooms, hallways, lunchroom, and at school events Attendance at evening meetings and school events may be required. Occasional travel for professional meetings or training Evaluation Performance will be evaluated annually by the Superintendent in accordance with district policy and state guidelines.
