POSITION DESCRIPTION
Athletic Director Camden County High School Reports to : Principal Purpose :
To provide direction and coordination for the school's interscholastic athletic program. The position requires considerable judgment to ensure that all financial transactions are necessary, reasonable, and allowable in support of the athletic program. Part-time teaching of Health/PE is also a requirement of this position. Qualifications, Training, and Experience:
Must hold or be eligible to hold a NC Teaching License in Health/Physical Education or related field. Must meet all requirements established by the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (NCHSAA). Previous coaching experience required. Demonstrated knowledge of relevant district, local, and state laws governing school athletics and education. Ability to effectively assess and address the needs of a school athletic program. Strong administrative, organizational, and financial skills, including thorough knowledge of athletic policy and procedure. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Athletic Director Provide overall leadership and supervision of the school's athletic program, ensuring compliance with NCHSAA/OPAC
regulations, district policies, and school expectations. Coordinate all aspects of athletic scheduling, transportation, officials, and event operations, including sending schedules to appropriate sources. Oversee game preparation and management, including staffing, supervision, and facility readiness for all home contests; manage and direct all home athletic events in coordination with school administration. Supervise, support, and evaluate coaches; ensure completion of all required certifications and trainings (e.g., CPR/AED); and maintain records of required coaching paperwork on file. Verify student-athlete eligibility, maintain required student-athlete paperwork (digital or hard copy), submit required reports and state eligibility forms, and ensure adherence to all deadlines and sanctioning requirements. Develop, manage, and monitor the athletic budget; coordinate expenditures to keep each sport within designated budgetary limits; and ensure accurate handling of all athletic funds, including collection, depositing, and disbursement in accordance with district procedures. Oversee procurement, inventory, maintenance, and security of athletic equipment and uniforms; approve purchase requests submitted to the principal; and submit anticipated program and sport-specific needs to the principal annually. Oversee all athletic bills, registrations, memberships, booking fees, and game expenses, ensuring timely payment to appropriate parties. Serve as the primary point of contact for athletics, addressing questions and concerns from students, families, staff, and the community; oversee athletic publicity, including newspaper and social media communications. Lead athletic recognition programs, banquets, awards events, and special programs; coordinate school-sponsored athletic events and serve as faculty consultant to outside organizations such as the Booster's Club, PTO, and similar groups. Ensure implementation of emergency action plans, athletic policies, and coach handbooks; collaborate with district leadership on updates as needed. Coordinate preparation, maintenance, and improvement of all athletic facilities (indoor and outdoor) and areas used for practice and competition; work closely with the school's custodial and maintenance departments. Coordinate athletic concessions and oversee ticket sales for all events. Ensure student-athletes, trainers, managers, scorekeepers, and similar participants are enrolled in the accident insurance program or that their legal guardian has signed the applicable waiver. Facilitate mandatory pre-season parent/guardian meetings to review NCHSAA, district, and team rules; students whose parent or guardian does not attend may not participate. Coordinate the use of athletic facilities by non-school or community groups. Represent the school at conference, district, and state meetings, as well as booster club functions, including voting at local, conference, and state levels as needed. Maintain accurate athletic records, including inventories, financial records, eligibility lists, team rosters, evaluations, and correspondence. Assist the principal with coaching change recommendations and interviews for new personnel. Ensure all athletic staff conduct their duties in a manner that reflects credit on the Athletic Department and the school. Other duties as assigned by the principal. PE/Health Teacher Design and deliver instruction aligned to the North Carolina curriculum for Healthful Living, including units on fitness, movement skills, personal health, and lifelong wellness. Facilitate structured physical activity and skill development that builds students' confidence, teamwork, and understanding of healthy lifestyles. Establish clear routines, expectations, and safety procedures for the gym, outdoor areas, and locker room to ensure a well-managed and respectful learning space. Employ a range of instructional approaches—including skill demonstrations, small-group activities, fitness tracking, and student goal-setting—to engage learners at varying ability levels. Monitor and assess student progress through performance-based tasks, fitness assessments, and health-related assignments; maintain accurate records in alignment with district expectations. Communicate regularly with students and families regarding progress, participation, and wellness goals. Collaborate with colleagues, student support staff, and administration to reinforce positive behavior, support individual student needs, and contribute to school-wide initiatives. Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential functions of this position in a manner consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other applicable federal, state, and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity expectations. Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with applicable federal, state, and local standards. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to lift and distribute athletic equipment as required by the duties of the position. Term of Employment:
