Job Description

The primary location of this position is on-site in Cullowhee, NC. This position is designated as being subject to the State of North Carolina Human Resources Act (SHRA). Reporting to the Access Services Manager, this position primarily supports Access Services by staffing the circulation desk and assisting with departmental projects. Serves as the point person to the Access Services Manager for the evening staff in the unit. Responsibilities include serving as a backup to circulation team members, handling checkouts and returns, managing reserves, shelving books, and mailing items as needed. The role requires staying current with library policies and procedures and using phone, email, and chat to answer questions about library services. Occasionally, the employee may also assist with Scholar Studio activities. The employee may sometimes assist with Scholar Studio activities. The regular schedule for this position is evenings: Monday through Thursday, 2pm to 10pm, and Sundays, 12pm to 8pm, including opening and closing responsibilities. Hours will shift during exams, holidays, or other periods when library hours vary from the regular schedule. Must be eligible to work in the United States without sponsorship. Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required for this Position Knowledge of customer service practices and the ability to provide courteous, effective assistance to diverse library users in person and through multiple communication channels. Knowledge of standard office and library support procedures, with the ability to maintain accurate records, follow established policies, and use library systems and related technology effectively. Ability to organize and prioritize work, support routine operations, and maintain attention to detail in a fast-paced service environment. Ability to communicate clearly, exercise sound judgment, and work collaboratively with staff and student employees while supporting safe and efficient library operations. High school diploma or equivalency and two years of experience in library services, office support, or related field; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
