Academic Services Liaison High Point, NC Job Details Full-time 1 day ago Qualifications Master's degree in education Report writing Phone communication Student mentoring Student record keeping Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) Mid-level 3 years Master's degree Bachelor's degree Working with students Counseling Productivity software Student advising School policy and procedure enforcement Communication skills Master's degree in counseling Teaching Community resource coordination Full Job Description The Academic Services Liaison is responsible for providing appropriate academic and transitional support to select students as directed by the Senior Director of Academic Services in conjunction with the Office of Family Engagement. Areas of support include academic, personal, social, and career. Additionally, this position helps students define success and achieve their goals at High Point University and beyond. The Academic Services Liaison will serve as a secondary advisor and address the unique needs of select High Point University students by providing holistic/pro-active opportunities, academic support/advising, coaching, and transition support. The Academic Services Liaison will be a point of contact to help students navigate internal systems and departments, while helping students connect with various programs. The Academic Services Liaison will enhance, not replace, services provided by other university personnel include Success Coaches, Learning Excellence Specialists, and academic advisors.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Master's degree preferred in an appropriate, related field [Education, Counseling, Student Personnel, or others] with 3 or more years of experience in academic advising or in higher education; a Bachelor's degree may be considered with commensurate experience.
Experience and Training :
3 or more years of experience in the field of academic advising, coaching, and/or teaching experience including at-risk students, transfer students, and undecided students; experience in working with students in higher education settings. Employment in select departments at High Point University may be considered with commensurate experience.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability :
Knowledge of Microsoft Office and student record systems; excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to analyze and synthesize situations and data, to implement appropriate solutions, and to create reports; ability to multitask.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Assisting students with all needs from campus engagement to academic success (for those who are not enrolled in Learning Excellence). Partnering with all departments across campus to provide the best possible experience for assigned students. Communicating with parents of students on a regular basis, via email, phone, and/or text. Responding to students, staff, parents, and faculty in a timely manner. Connecting students with appropriate campus resources. Mentoring students in the development of life skills such as professional communication, self-advocacy, professional etiquette, networking, and critical thinking. Connecting students with community resources when possible. Communicating and enforcing campus policies. Assisting with registration after students have met with their academic advisor. Supporting the Office of Academic Services when needed. Completing a weekly summary report for the Offices of Family Engagement and Academic Services. Maintaining confidentiality. Adhering to FERPA guidelines. Participating in departmental and university-wide staff meetings. Completing all campus and departmental training requirements. Attending other campus functions such as orientations, open-houses, Family Weekends, or move-in weekends when needed. Assisting and supporting the programs of the Office of Academic Services and other duties as assigned and appropriate to the position and service to the University, particularly as it relates to covering other Academic Services Staff members as needed.
